Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi guys!

I have not seen a thread for the Vanderbilt Nurse Residency program for Winter 2021 and thought I'd make one! I am currently in the process of applying. I am on my first part of my application. I would love to hear whose applying, what unit they are applying to and your experience so far!

I have mines next Monday and according to the email I received today, I won’t know until October 1st....and I was really looking forward to hearing that same week as I originally expected. I’m interviewing for the PMAC so that’s the reason why I guess. Little bummed by that ? how was the behavioral questions? And how many people are interviewing you?

You and I can both wallow with anticipation for about three weeks then! The behavioral questions would be difficult if not prepared, but as I said, so long as you come in with 4-5 stories from your experiences, you will be just fine. I was interviewed by 4 people. I believe two were managers and two were staff nurses, but to be honest I cannot remember all of their titles. They were all very kind though, and I am trying to not get to excited just in case this doesn't pan out. I am sure you will do wonderful!

One of my friends interviews tomorrow for the Adult PACU and I’m interested to hear how it goes. I’m glad you think yours went well and you prepared well! I’m nervous as all get out about my interview in two weeks. I just don’t want to stumble over my own tongue and make sure I get to the point.

also, I wonder why they are pushing back letting people know? I’m interview for PPACU and haven’t received anything stating the decision would be delayed but it’s also towards the end of the interview process I guess.

Hey! I was wondering if anyone who interviewed for the adult tracks received an email saying they will follow up by October 1st. I thought the email before stated it would be by the end of the week.

It seems they’re doing a lot of us like that. May be the new standard as of now for the interview hear back.

I just heard back, I got waitlisted for Peds ED. Did anyone get a definitive yes or no?? Seems like everyone just got the email pushing back to Oct 1st. I wonder if anyone received an actual offer?

Did they tell you October 1st originally? I guess you’d hear back October 1st as well now with  positions they still have left.

During my interview said they would get back to me by the end of the week (today).

As far as I know, waitlist means that the department (in your case the peds ED) made offers to the candidates they interviewed, and you will get a pot if someone declines an offer. Best of luck!

Hey guys. Finished my interview two hours ago and finally getting the strength to update. LOL I’ve been laying in bed, motionless, reflecting. Felt like I just ran a marathon. The questions are absolutely hard and very specific. Actually the only question I  practiced that was asked was “why vanderbilt?”.  And I completely stumbled on “why this unit” because I really didn’t think that far and I only knew why pediatrics. I interviewed for PMAC so I quickly recovered with PMAC is broad and would provide me with a many learning experiences overall as a PEDS nurse. For the other behavioral questions I had to get creative because I didn’t really have a specific scenario so I would always ask for permission to provide a similar scenario but not exact.
All in all they said I provided great examples. But because of my stuttering and nervousness I’m wary.
I won’t know until next week or oct 1 as previously stated so I’m just praying. They have to touch base with Tracy they said.

sooooooo just good luck to anyone that hasn’t done it yet. Although I was nervous, they actually were pleasant and welcoming as others have said ? calmed me down a little. Even though you might not get the questions you are practicing for, get creative with the answers or experiences you have in mind and try to find a connection. They didn’t mind that it wasn’t exact, especially since some of us don’t have a lot of clinical experiences.

Hey hunny! First of all, YOU DID IT!! That’s huge! I’m sure that you did well and I’ll be hoping that you hear great news ASAP! Secondly, thank you for being so specific and sharing. I think a lot of times when it comes to stuff like this people get so caught up in competing and all trying to attain the same goal that we aren’t willing to help others out. But you did!! I just feel like all of us could be great friends outside of this forum! So again, thank you!

I’m really rooting for you and for everyone else here!

The 28th can’t get here soon enough for me...

Oh yes absolutely! Never been the type to hold back. If we’re going to succeed is going to be of our own efforts regardless. I see that a lot on all nurses and it’s ashame but ultimately I get it, especially if it is your dream hospital. I’d be happy if my experience can help someone else. I remember when it was time to apply for my nursing program, I didn’t get into the school I wanted but other applicants were nervous, I PMd one some  advice and they emailed me separately weeks later thanking me because she got in ? I was ecstatic! I really pray some good news comes from all of us and I really look forward to meeting you guys and creating long term friendships. ?
