Figured I'd start a thread for those of us applying to the nurse residency program for 2011 to share thoughts, feelings, questions and to network with eachother a bit.

I'm Duluth! I'm a new grad with a previous degree in Biology. I'm applying for the Adult Critical Care track, with hopes of matching to Trauma or Emergency Services.

Specializes in ICU, ED, PACU.

Interview for Critical Care Track. :)

I was lucky enough to be selected for an interview!!!! :yeah:

Good luck to everyone!!

I have never heard of someone being wait listed for an interview? Anybody know what that is all about?

Specializes in Critical care.

Congrats to those who go interviews!

Yeah waitlists for an interview aren't too bad, maybe someone sees the program and its not for them or see's they are not for the program.

Either way, waitlist means still in the game.

Hello everyone I was put on the waiting list for an interview for the peds track, I don´t know how it works but I hope they give me a chance to interview at least, for those who didn´t get it I am sorry, I think that the lack of volunteering that maybe some of us had made an impact, plus I know of some others that have worked there before so at least have a foot in he door. Congrats to those who made it!

Specializes in Med/surg, Quality & Risk.

Got an interview for the adult medicine track. Obviously there are many many people who apply for for peds and critical care because everyone wants to be in those fields so don't feel bad if you didn't get an interview. Good luck to everyone!

Specializes in ICU, ED, PACU.

I will be interviewing this Wed. I'm arriving in Nashville on Monday. If anyone wants to meet up or prep for the interview shoot me a PM.

Hey everyone. I too was chosen for an interview for the adult critical care track. Good luck to everyone!!! I was selected for the last day of interviews!

Good luck Duluth!

Hey, Duluth and everyone else!

I have an interview on Thursday. I am wondering how everyone is preparing for these interviews?

I have never had a behavioral interview before, and our school seems to have no interest in preparing us for interviewing in general!

Any help you all can offer is greatly appreciated, and of course congrats and good luck to all!

Hey Tangerine- I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on how to prepare too. For my interview for nursing school they asked us questions like tell me a time when you showed integrity and tell me a time when you made a mistake and how you handled it...those type of questions. So I think I am just going to think of a bunch of questions like that before I have my interview.

I will be up in Nashville the week of the 10th if anyone wants to meet up and get ready for the interview!!

Hey, All:

Here are the questions I have pulled from other VNRP threads, for those of you interviewing next week, would you be willing to confirm or deny they are still using these? :)

-what is unique about you

-what are your strengths/weaknesses

-name your best and worst classes

-describe a difficult situation and what you did about it

-how do you learn what you need to learn?

-why you chose your track

-your proudest accomplishment in nursing school

-how do you educate your patients

-a clinical situation where your actions made a significant difference for your patient

Please add if you know of more!

Right now, I am trying to list situations that have happened to me in my life in and outside of nursing school. I have had really "good" patients who were friendly, compliant, etc. So I am worried about having to answer a lot of "negatives" in regards to patients, since I really haven't had any negative experiences.

Also, I live in Nashville, but don't have enough posts to PM anyone about meeting up!

The best advice for interviews is to be yourself. Understand that the content of your answers is only a part of how you are being judged. Be HONEST! They will see right through your answer if you give a dishonest example of a clinical situation or about your interests. Once the interviewer senses dishonesty you are done.

To prepare I made a list of tough questions and am doing mock interviews.

Hi all. I have also been researching nursing interview questions. I had my interview in Colorado for a similar Residency program and they asked questions like the above listed. It was formal but I think the main thing is being yourself and being passionate about nursing. They seemed to be most concerned about your ability to think critically and in a linear fashion.

Johns Hopkins website has a wonderful 18 page guide to nursing interviews!
