The application for the Vanderbilt nurse residency for February 2015 will open in August. Who all is applying? Does anyone have advice for those of us who will be applying?
Hi everyone!I didn't want to post anything when I was applying because I didn't think I had a chance of getting an interview. I'm ecstatic to say that I have an interview for the Pediatric Critical Care track. I love this thread, and wish everyone the best of luck. Hopefully we'll be co-workers soon! I'll be driving/flying down from Chicago once I find out the date of my interview.
Now time to prepare! :-)
Congratulations on getting an interview!!

Well congrats!
I didn't think I had a chance either, if you read my comments from early in the thread! But I also didn't think I had a shot of getting into my #1 choice of nursing school, since only 20% of the applicants are accepted. But you never know! I've been rejected by so many rural, middle-of-nowhere hospitals, even though the jobs say new grad/residency, but Vandy gives me an interview? It's all so random! What a wild roller-coaster this profession is!
There's so many youtube videos on nursing interview questions. I've been playing them and pausing them to answer as my prep.

Congrats!!!! I felt the same way and also got an interview for peds critical care!!! I'll be interviewing the last week in October! Best of luck to everybody!
Yeah, I've kept journals and we had assignments for every day in med surg/peds/womens where we had to write about the patient condition, nursing interventions, meds, vitals, etc. and how the patient was when we left. I kept all of those and am reviewing them now. This is my second career, so I'm no stranger to interviews. No matter how prepared you are, you're going to walk out and think of better answers later that night!
I see, that is great, you have some starting points then! I too had to write worksheets on the patients, but I do not remember doing something out of the ordinary, like going above and beyond for a patient? I am afraid of those kind of questions...wondering if I can give examples from customer service experience, because I have a ton of those, but limited experience in nursing ... ?! are you guys taking advantage of experience in other fields to respond to some of the questions you are going to be given?
