Vanderbilt MSN 2020

Updated:   Published

I just attended Vanderbilt's fall open house for the 2020 year and I'm really excited to be applying! I'm hoping to connect with other Vandey applicants so we can offer support and info along this process. I am applying to the post BSN dual CNM/ FNP program.

I know this may seem pre-mature, but do you have any recommendations for apartment hunting? I'm coming in town for Admitted Student's Day, so I was planning on touring some while I'm in town.

So I rented my apartment during admitted students weekend and saved a good money on rent. Prices go up in June/July. There are a lot of places to choose from. My advice is to drive around when you are here and look for the places that don’t come up on Google. The Google places are all a lot more money (millennium music row, elliston 23, the Aertson, Duet, etc). If you can find a roommate it’ll help with the high rent costs. Also ask about all of the fees. The rent might be 1200 but many places in town charge community utilities, parking costs, trash costs, garage remote fees, pet fees....I was shocked by how many fees I was paying!

Look at 12 South, East Nashville, Wedgewood Houston, and Sylvan Park neighborhoods in addition to West End/Midtown (where Vandy is located).

if I could do it over again I would have lived within a 20 minute drive of the school and paid for a parking pass instead of living across from school. I would have saved a lot of money.

Specializes in Psyche.

Try somewhere in franklin and brentwood estates.

Hey! I’ve lived in downtown Nashville for the past two years, so I can definitely give you some tips and answer any questions You might have! If you want to stay close to vandy/downtown I would look at Downtown, the Gulch, Germantown, 12 south, music row and the west end! It really depends on your budget, but most places tend to be around $1500-$2600 for a one bedroom in good areas! If you have any questions let me know!

Specializes in ICU.

I live in Bellevue is 20 min drive to school. There are a lot of new condos for rent, the neighborhood is very nice and safe. Check it out.

Franklin and Brentwood are super nice areas! Just keep in mind 20-25 min without traffic can easily become 45-60 min in rush hour. I drove from nashville to Franklin to complete my prerequisites and getting home always took about 45, but you get more space out there which is super nice

Has anyone heard about movement on the waitlist, or has anyone who was waitlisted gotten off the list? I’m assuming come end of March, more movement may happen?

For those who got accepted from out side of Nashville - I'm curious what is your process regarding FNP clinical rotations?

I've scanned a couple of previous Vanderbilt posts and there are some stories about students not being placed and the clinical placement office not picking up calls. Has there been events when the student was unable to finish the program b/c they didn't secure a rotation? How much help does the clinical placement office provide for securing out of state placements?

Can any of the current distance students comment on the above?

Thank you very much.

For those who currently live in the Nashville area, I hope you were unaffected by the tornado. It missed my apartment by half a mile and thank goodness we are okay. If you or someone you know needs any help, please reach out I have a ton of extra clothes, blankets, towels etc...!

Hi, I haven’t been able to attend any of the info sessions and was wondering if anyone knows what they mean on the offer letter by “seamless transition to DNP” ? Assuming we would still have to reapply for the doctorate program?

You don’t need to apply to the DNP program once you are accepted into the MSN program. You can go right into it once you complete your MSN or join the following class if you want to take a year off.

Are there any part time PNP-AC people out there?
I’m trying to grasp exactly how often I’ll need to be on campus as I am located on the west coast and unable to relocate. The website mentions 8 times in a one year period, 4-5 days each block excluding Dec, March, June and July. From what I’ve gathered, part time students still meet at the same times but our blocks are just shorter (only 2-3 days?)

Can anyone confirm or deny this? I’ve tried calling admissions but I can’t seem to get a concrete answer. Thanks in advance!

Has anyone who applied after priority deadline heard anything?? I applied early January and haven’t heard anything at all. Applied to PMHNP, FYI.
