Vanderbilt MSN 2020

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Updated:   Published

I just attended Vanderbilt's fall open house for the 2020 year and I'm really excited to be applying! I'm hoping to connect with other Vandey applicants so we can offer support and info along this process. I am applying to the post BSN dual CNM/ FNP program.

I actually don't have any experience either. . .

I completely switched career paths. But thank you!

They truly do look at you holistically. I also didn’t have any experience, I applied before I graduated with my BSN. I’m working full time now, and in school full time (holy crazy!)

I wanted to make sure I had a couple of years experience on the floor prior to graduating and becoming an NP.

it’s a great school and the professors care so much.
happy to answer any questions you may have/that I can answer.
Good luck to all!

How do you attend the block time that you're required to be on campus while working full time? I work a normal 9-5 and just don't think I can take every 8th week off for the on campus blocks. Applying for the AG-ACNP program.

This is exactly my plan if I get in! I am currently in a BSN program here in Nashville, but I am applying to the part-time program so I can work full time as a nurse while in school. Do you mind if I ask if you have any advice? I have already submitted my application but I currently have a 3.62 but a wide variety of experience in the medical field (medical scribe, nurse assistant, internships, and medical sales experience). I also work in Vanderbilt right now with my medical sales company and have a couple of people as my letter of rec in the clinics. I guess I am just wondering how competitive this program really is and some insight on current students and what you think about the program.

I am currently working on my personal statement now. Anyone else applying for the PMHNP program? I am currently enrolled in an RN to BSN program now with a projected graduation of May 2020. I have been an RN for 25 years with the last 11 years working as a psychiatric nurse. I have submitted three references, two of which were psychiatrists. Anyone else going to or did submit more than the required 3 references?

I came across this girl's blog with tons of info on Vanderbilt's program, answers some questions about the program and gives insight into the experience. Might be helpful for you guys to check out too! https://sincerelyangie.blog/

To answer your question, they said in the info session that you can submit up to 5 but they will be taking elements of your application and applying scores to each section; for the letters of recommendation, they will only score three letters. They recommended you pick the three best possible recommenders and stick to that unless you are okay with the score being applied to 3 random letters from the 4 or 5 submitted. They also said that we can't request them to apply the scoring to a specific 3. I hope that makes sense and is helpful!

Anyone think that we could hear earlier than Feb? I'm dreading the wait.

There’s no way you’ll hear before February. They are expecting even more applicants than last year, and we didn’t hear until the end of February last year.

I know it’s pretty competitive, but It’s all relative to the great program.

How do you know it

How do you know they're expecting more applicants? and why are they?

Barbiegirl1229, because they are not requiring the GRE this cycle or conducting interviews, more students will be applying. They said this in the info session. We will just have to sit back and be patient. Despite their consistent position that decisions wouldn’t come out until mid February last year, they were inundated with inquiries about when they would release decisions starting months before February 15th. I think that may have been a factor that caused a delay. In any case, they will release decisions when they have them and told us to not expect them until mid February. If they have them sooner, that would be great but we shouldn’t expect that. They pointed out that with the holidays and the start of spring semester in January, it will take time for the faculty to review all applicants, especially since they are reviewing holistically.
