Vanderbilt MSN 2019

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi! I'm starting a thread for Fall 2019. Anyone else applying/re-applying too? Please comment!

Okay, thanks for the information!

Hello! I am super nervous about my chances of being accepted into this program. I go to a pretty rigorous undergrad liberal arts school, so my GPA doesn't seem like much (3.4), but very few students here get a GPA above 3.6. I think my essays are strong and my experiences (working in a psychiatric residential facility, alzheimer's home, holding vice-president of Psi Chi (psychology honorary society), and being the faculty chosen student rep for the psychology department...among other similar things) are the strongest points of my application. I also have recommendations from the Dean of my college, the head of the Psychology department and my supervisor for the residential facilty I worked at. But, again, I'm worried my GRE and GPA will kick me out of the running.

How are you all feeling about this application cycle? I am so nervous!

My GPA is 3.3, I have never taken the GRE but I have completed the first 2 years of med school. I don't know what to expect, my app is unconventional and if I get in I'll be entering at age 31 as a non trad.

Well good news...the GRE is no longer required! It's hard to determine the exact science to getting admitted. They look at the whole or overall picture of the applicant not just one specific area. Will you be attending the Open House this Saturday?

Yes! I will be there! I'm excited. It will be my second time visiting for an open house.

Specializes in Cardiac RN.

Hey guys! I will graduate with a BS in Health Promotion this upcoming May... do you guys know which "area of study" on the application I should choose in this case? I'm interested in the Pre-Specialty-Master's program but all the different area of study nursing options have me confused as to which one I need to choose on the application!

Hi cbrooks,

Since you will have a bachelor's degree in a field other than nursing you automatically enter pre-specialty. However, when it comes to the "area of study" you need to review the specialties and decide which one interest you. Review each specialty at Multiple Entry Options | MSN | School of Nursing | Vanderbilt University and do additional research (Google) and go from there.

I hope this is helpful!

I've been a nurse for a few years so I'm applying to the WHNP MSN track. Anyone else looking at WHNP?

I am applying pre-specialty agacnp

So far as you guys know, there are no applications for internal scholarships, correct?

It's official...I'm seeing all GREEN. My application and all materials has been received. February can't get here fast enough. Keep me in prayer ya'll.

Does anyone know if letters of rec have to be in by November 1st to meet the priority deadline? Some schools give leeway for letters to be submitted after the application deadline but I'm not sure if that's still the case with a priority deadline. Any thoughts?

PS I'm hoping/assuming my last letter writer will come through by the deadline I gave her but am wondering for my own peace of mind
