I haven't seen a thread yet for 2016 hopefuls, so I thought I'd start one. After much research and changing my mind back and forth, I decided to go for the Vanderbilt MSN. I would be direct entry as I already have my BSN. I finally decided on Pediatric Primary Care. I'm just worried about getting a job after graduation as I'm not really seeing much in the way of openings in the Nashville area--which is where I live.
Is everyone that got in after the priority deadline a distance student? I think that makes a big difference. Darn those limited local student slots. I'm not applying until next fall, but I'm going to be sure and have my application in before the deadline. I want mine at the top of the stack.
And that is good to hear that you don't have to have an academic reference. I graduated with my BSN in 2001 from a state school, so very doubtful any of my instructors are even there and I know no one would remember me.
Congratulations to all who have been accepted!
Hi everyone! I'm a nurse that's looking to apply to the direct FNP program for 2017 and I saw this thread. Congrats to everyone that got accepted!! Vanderbilt has always been where I really want to go. I was wondering if anyone that got accepted to the FNP program would mind telling me how their application looked-- gpa, gre, experience, and Extracurriculars, so I could get an idea of anything else I could be doing to increase my chances. Thanks in advance for any help!!
Hey tessag12! While I'm going to vandy for the dual program for NMW/FNP, I figured I'd still give you a response since I'm not sure how many people are still checking here :) I had a 3.55 from a rigorous school and academic program, a 4.0 in my pre-regs, GRE verbal 155 quantitative 153 writing 4.5, some of my extracurriculars included division 1 college athletics, community service work, tutoring, research in women's health (which definitely helped my application and standpoint on why midwifery). I hope that helps! Shoot for the 4.5 on GRE writing -- from what I've heard that's what they are really looking for at the minimum.
Can anyone speak to their experience with the scholarships / grants? At last year's open house, they said that everyone gets at least something and a handful of students get a full-ride for their first year based on GPA and GRE. Would love to hear about the amounts people got along with their scores and if there were any other factors besides GPA and GRE.
