I haven't seen a thread yet for 2016 hopefuls, so I thought I'd start one. After much research and changing my mind back and forth, I decided to go for the Vanderbilt MSN. I would be direct entry as I already have my BSN. I finally decided on Pediatric Primary Care. I'm just worried about getting a job after graduation as I'm not really seeing much in the way of openings in the Nashville area--which is where I live.
From a mass e-mail this morning:
"Once again Vanderbilt University School of Nursing has been named among the "Best Graduate Schools" in the country by U.S. News and World Report magazine.
We are delighted to report that the School of Nursing Doctorate of Nursing Practice Program is ranked No. 10 for the 2017 year. This is the first time that US News and World Report ranked dnp programs. The MSN program continues to be among the top Schools of Nursing. For the 2017 ranking, the MSN program was ranked No. 13, tied with the University of Pittsburgh.
To determine scores, U.S. News & World Report uses a ranking methodology for Schools of Nursing, which arrives at a weighted average across eight indicators. Being ranked #10 and #13 for the DNP and MSN program is particularly noteworthy as there are over 200 DNP programs and over 500 MSN programs in the country.
The individual nursing specialties of the MSN program received the following ranking:
Nurse-Midwifery specialty, No. 1
Adult/Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner specialty, No. 3
Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specialty, No. 3
Nursing Informatics specialty, No. 4
Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner specialty, No. 4
Family Nurse Practitioner specialty, No. 5
Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner specialty, No. 6
We are truly proud of Vanderbilt University School of Nursing's outstanding reputation and is reflective the excellence in academics, research, practice, and informatics that are core components of our school.
Thanks to all, faculty, staff, students, and alumni- you are what makes VUSN great!"
I'm proud of our school as usual! I'm also thrilled that my specialty (AG-ACNP) soared from #5 to #3 this year!
I received my acceptance letter on Wednesday this past week. I applied after the early action decline and I hadn't had any communication since the financial aid email back in February. They sent me an email with an application status update and there it was! I will be in the full time direct entry FNP program! This is a dream come true for me! So excited to meet everyone in August!
I have been following, but this is my first time posting. Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted! I just found out I was accepted to the AGACNP program a couple weeks ago. Has anyone thought about setting up a Facebook page? I found one for last years class but not for this year.
I'm applying this fall for pre-specialty Women's Health... can anyone comment on the format of references? Is it a totally free form letter that your recommenders write and email in, or some type of form? I've been out of school for 2 years and worried about not having an academic reference but I didn't keep in touch with any professors...

It is electronic. Ask your references for their email and phone number. VUSN sends them an automated email with a link to a page where they answer questions about you + can write a recommendation. Then they just click submit.
I have been out of school for over 8 years. No academic reference for me either. I used my manager, a provider that I work with, and an RN coworker. If you know anyone who went to Vanderbilt for undergrad or grad school that fits one of these categories, that can't hurt.
