Vanderbilt MSN 2015

Published

Hello,

I am applying for the MSN program in '15, due in December. I was wondering if anyone knew how much weight the GRE holds, in regards to being competitive? I am a little nervous about my scores not being competitive. Any advice will help!

Best regards,

It is crazy to me that it doesn't all go out at once. This rolling admissions thing is something else!

If I am reading correctly, some people are getting emails while some are getting snail mail letters or phone calls?

DoulaMe,

I received a phone call from the CNM director in December about my admittance into the CNM program, and then an update on my admissions page telling me of my acceptance into the dual CNM/FNP program a few days ago. I think they also sent a packet of information in the mail but since I'm in California, it hasn't gotten here yet.

I think each specialty is doing it a little differently, so I'm not sure about the others, but hopefully everyone will know by mid-January. Good luck!

I received an email telling me there had been a change in my status. When I checked my application the school had put the acceptance letter onto my page. I received the snail mail packet a week later. No one ever called me though. I'm prespecialty for the FNP track, btw.

At the Open house, the admissions staff explained the review process. An application can go through different processes depending on the program and the strength of your application. All applications go through admissions committee, then the director. If there are questions about your application or the vote isn't unanimous between the director and admissions, your application has to go to another committee (I think that one made up of professors in your specialty ,something like that, the open house was in October, so some details may be a little foggy, but I specifically remember that the application could be reviewed up to 3 times before a decision is made.) I think this is why everyone is finding out at different times and getting different committee dates. Its kind of pointless to compare when and how you received notification for your specialty and against another specialty. You just know when you know! And that sucks.

I applied to direct entry AGPCNP after nov.1 but was also told by the director for that program @ open house that BSNs have more time to apply to this specialty because the program doesn't fill up as quickly for direct entry.

I don't know if I will sitr up more commotion by posting this, but hoping to offer some peace of mind...

No, Britt, that was so helpful! Thank you!

If I can remember correctly, the question was explicitly asked during one of the breakout sessions. Probably from someone who reads these boards a lot hahaha!

I must admit even knowing the process made writing the interview responses difficult because then it was like how many ways can they pick my intentions apart, ya know? I finally reached a point where I just said what I really and truly felt and if they like it, fine. If they don't, that's okay too.

Case in point, as a result of the word limits for answers and in anticipation of the interviews for psych I wrote parts of my application with the intent of inspiring curiosity and the desire to ask for more information.

I don't think that is a bad idea actually. Showing that you have ideas that are worth questioning could demonstrate your ability to think at a graduate level. You have to stand out I'm sure they are reading well over 200 applications. Think positive. :)
