Vanderbilt MSN 2015

Published

Hello,

I am applying for the MSN program in '15, due in December. I was wondering if anyone knew how much weight the GRE holds, in regards to being competitive? I am a little nervous about my scores not being competitive. Any advice will help!

Best regards,

I think Vandy moved the dates for their decisions way up this year (I am a Vandy grad and the year I applied decisions went out late February/early March. I think this was true for last year's applicants, too?). I know it feels confusing and disorganized (they must still be working the kinks out with this new admissions calendar) but I hope it doesn't color your perception of the school. I had a great experience and being a Vandy grad has made me extremely marketable. Don't give up. Once you actually get accepted everything runs very smoothly, IMO.

Good luck to all of you!

That's interesting. I wonder why they moved it? Thanks for that insight.

I think the application deadline was a month earlier compared to last year. I'm unsure of why they made the change. Though at the speed Vandy's moving, we might hear back at the same time as last year's cohort even though we submitted a month earlier :p

I'm so confused. I was just contacted (late) today to have a phone interview tomorrow. It's the CNM program. I feel like I missed an email or something. I also have an interview at Yale and their process has been so different.

It seems like Yale has done a really good job of streamlining their application review process and keeping applicants informed. Truly, they've spoiled us. Either way - we'll hear back from Vanderbilt before any other school!

For those that do ultimately get accepted, will they push back the deposit deadline? It would be pretty crazy to inform people in early or mid-January and still expect them to put down a deposit by the end of the month.

Snoozy,

I do think Yale has made me feel like they are a family and I am more than just a number to them. It is quickly making them my top choice. Which isn't to say that Vanderbilt is anything to sneeze at (and I might not get in anywhere--ha!) or that I wouldn't be perfectly happy at Vanderbilt. These are all amazing programs and I am really honored to have made it past the initial review at any of them. I am partial to Yale at this point though. Good luck to you! It's been fun seeing you in both posts. Maybe we will end up at the same school. ;)

And I am not making any deposit thoughts today. Only interview thoughts. Baby steps. Ha ha.

Fair enough! Good luck with yours, and hopefully it goes well enough that you get to worry about deposits in the future ;)

I was told decisions should be out in the next week or two and we'd have 30 days from that to make a decision.

When I submitted, they sent an email saying they anticipated notification in the beginning of January.... Hopefully any day now!

Hi!! I just received a call this morning, letting me know I was accepted to the Midwifery program. :) I am also pre specialty! She said I should receive a letter in the mail this week. :) Clearly I am very excited!.

Looking forward to hearing lots more good news on this thread in the next few weeks.

Congrats, Flamingo!

My interview left me feeling like Vandy may not be a good fit for me, but it really is an interesting concept they've got going on for clinicals. It sounds like a great program.

Thanks! The distance clinicals is a problem for me as well. I have two young children, so I understand your hesitation about it, but with that noted as a negative, Vandy offers an excellent program and has a lot of positives.

I have also applied a few others places, interviewed at UPenn, so I'm waiting to hear back from them and others. I'm assuming that I will have to submit the deposit before I do though.
