Valencia college Nursing Summer 2014

I was wondering if any of you guys will be starting nursing school at Valencia summer 2014. I'm really nervous. I don't know anyone that's currently in nursing school nor anyone who will be starting. Also, could any of the previous nursing l students give any ideas about what to expect.

I live in altamonte springs near the mall (off Palm Springs). I had found the book at Barnes and nobles for $162 and it said the retail was $201. I think I may call them to make sure the access code comes with it and I will go ahead a buy it myself. I'm a lot like you. I have to make flash cards and write down what I read. I learn better hands on. Thanks a lot. I'll let you know when I get the book and we can still compare notes. I'm gonna also try to get the workbook as well.

I live very close I live in lake Mary if you want we can get together and study. I am definitely going to take your tip about definitions and work book. I'll most likely make flash cards of all definitions.

We can absolutely study together and I'm definitely going to make flash cards of those definitions as well. It's going to be a lot of work but I think as long as we put in a lot of work we will be successful.

I'm also starting in summer. I thought the orientation was a massive amount of information. I had the same issue with the bookstore. What they actually told me is that the nursing dept hadn't even given them the book list yet! :no: Was how the man looked at me. I asked to see the ISBN of the books from this year. That was a no go as well. Then I just went ahead & bought the fundamentals book from the publisher itself.

I've seen your names in the other summer posts & I was looking around wondering who was who! Pleasure to meet you both. I too am not going through financial aid & have to work so this will be an adventure!

I think the whole book thing is kind of disorganized and communication seems to be lacking. I understand the bookstore is just trying to help but my thing is why would they give us a list of books to but and give us reading to do from those books if they weren't the ones we needed. Any who oh well. I thank goodness just got the approval from my boss to get the iT department to set me up with a home office. So I'll be working from home during nursing school. This is going to be a challenge for all of us but I feel as long as we help each other as much as possible and put the effort in that's needed we will succeed. Idk where you live but you can join our study get togethers.

I'm with you Daisyline. At first I thought this is really disorganized. I'm not having a lot of faith in this. But I picked something up from the bookstore man. He said he was SUPER frustrated because the nursing program does this EVERY year he said. Then I realized, I wonder if this is the beginning of the "mind altering" of the nursing program. I'm jealous of your home office! That's awesome! Thank you for the invite to the study group. I'll definitely be there. I'm a combo of a visual & auditory learner.

don't just do the key words and the questions... read as well! I cant stress this enough! You have to look at everything. Read the chapters, key terms, and do questions and work book! trust me on this. there is also a book called: Fundamentals of success, use it!

and as far as the book store people, they don't really know anything! one year I asked them to help and they gave me the wrong book totally! Its more of the bookstore staff that is the problem

Is your fundamentals clinical handbook really small (smaller than a normal textbook)

I was planning on ordering the fundamentals of success today. My textbook should be here today so I will start working in it. I've been really working in the dosage calculation book in the meantime and I'm currently on chapter 14 of 18 so I'm almost done with that. I worked a few on the dosage practice questions and was getting them correct so that's enlightening. Even though we start in May I feel like we've already started
