Valencia college Nursing Summer 2014

Published

I was wondering if any of you guys will be starting nursing school at Valencia summer 2014. I'm really nervous. I don't know anyone that's currently in nursing school nor anyone who will be starting. Also, could any of the previous nursing l students give any ideas about what to expect.

I feel a little overwhelmed. Our schedule will make it very hard to work full time. But I'm still very excited to start! Their suggested pre studying of an entire workbook and ten chapters was what made me a little overwhelmed.

prestudying? like not to the last minute or start pre studying now?

Like things they told us to start studying before the semester starts.

I see well if you start now it will be a little easier

I have started working on dosage. It has 18 chapters and they said to work in it cover to cover so I'm working that first as one of the instructors told me dosage is a make or break type of thing. If time permits, I will then read the chapters. I didn't buy the book because the bookstore had sold out and they may also change the textbook (according to the person who worked in the bookstore).

They already handed us our book list do as long as the textbook edition is the same on the list we ok ( which it is) the only book changing editions is pharmacology. I'm trying to budget it all in this is the plan I have is to do 4 chapters a week of dosages (I'm starting on ch 4 because 1-3 is basic math) and read 2 chapters from the book a week. We have 5 weeks before classes start so If I stick to that then I should be able to finish both reading and dosages.

When I went into the bookstore they had only 1 textbook left (the main book) and the girl in front of me took it. When she went to check out, the bookstore worker told her they were advised to only sell the dosage books because they may change textbooks and if she buys it she can't get her money back so she told them she didn't want it. I was planning on buying all of my books on amazon.com anyway because I'm not using financial aid and the books are cheaper there than at the bookstore so I'm still buying the book but at least if they change it I can send it back to amazon. Also in regards to the readings, a lady told me to first look at the chapter and write down all definitions. Then answer the questions at the end of the chapter and the corresponding chapter in the workbook. I'm gonna try it and see how it goes.

If you don't mind me asking, how much was the fundamentals of nursing book?

I was told the same by the bookstore lady but I just used common sense that they wouldn't tell us to get the book what chapters to read out of the book and already hand us a list with the books we need of they were changing the book now the pharmacology edition does change. So just be aware of that. And thanks for that tip I'll try that as well!

Uh I forget now I think like 200 or so.

When it comes to studying I'm a tactile learning style so I take tons of notes and flash cards. So of you aren't able to get the book before class starts I can email you my notes if that helps.

What area do you live in if you don't mind me asking?
