VA HPSP 2020 - Scholarship Award Updates?

Published

Hey guys,

Just curious if anyone else here applied for the Veterans Affairs Health Professional Scholarship Program this year for PMHNP. I've been seeing lots of posts on other forums for different specialities (pharm, med, PA, BSN) but nothing from psych NP applicants. If anyone has heard back or is nervously awaiting as well, I'd love to connect. I'm feeling really hopeful about the opportunity and the silence is killing me! ?

Best of luck to everyone!? Trying to stay distracted and not get my hopes up too much, but it’s hard! Can’t be too much longer, I think.. has anyone heard anything further from from ---------------------?

Nothing here yet, obviously LOL. I’ll update as soon as I hear something!

Funny, I wake up every morning, check my e-mail and think, “Okay, this is great. He’s supposed to call with good news and e-mail bad news.” But, I’m also anxious. I’m guessing we should hear something by next week?
** I think it might motivate me to study more knowing I have the scholarship, too. HaHa

Just received notification that I was placed on alternate status. Anyone else hear back? I’m wondering if they are still making offers at this point or only considering for alternate status. But more waiting, I guess! Hope you guys get some positive news

I wasn't selected. Very disappointed, but happy for you!

I’m “alternate” also. Let’s hope for $$ funding in October.

Just a FYI, I was an alternate last year and literally did not hear that I got it until the end of July. So hang tight!

Did you receive alternate status in June/July then October passed and it wasn’t until the following July you heard? Or, you heard not long after you received your alternate status?

I received alternate status mid June and received selection email July 30th...I'm not sure about the funding October thing, that may be a thing. The other blog I was on I did not see any notifications of people receiving it in October, but maybe that is a possibility

There was a generic comment about our status being updated automatically if we get accepted later and something about more funding in October. I don’t know anything beyond that. Your situation sounds ideal, though! Thanks!

Thanks for all the updates and feedback guys! Based on the email response I received this morning, we'll hear back after October 1st about selections made from next year's funding - which sounds positive to me, since they will only be pulling from alternates at that time. That's my interpretation at least!

I also recieved an alternate status on July 8th. Does anyone know how many people were actually accepted? And, how many alternates there are? Seems like there is alot of alternates. I am wondering if I'm alternate number 355 at this point! Praying for this opportunity!

I am currently on this Scholarship since last year, if you have any questions let me know ? Best of luck

Hello and congratulations on the scholarship! How are the rotations? Are they all at the same VA hospital for the 12 months? Do you by any chance know if you get to pick your location for training or they pick it for you? I got an alternate status this month. So, I am not sure if I will even get a chance to pick my location if I do get selected. TIA.
