VA HPSP 2020 - Scholarship Award Updates?

Published

Hey guys,

Just curious if anyone else here applied for the Veterans Affairs Health Professional Scholarship Program this year for PMHNP. I've been seeing lots of posts on other forums for different specialities (pharm, med, PA, BSN) but nothing from psych NP applicants. If anyone has heard back or is nervously awaiting as well, I'd love to connect. I'm feeling really hopeful about the opportunity and the silence is killing me! ?

Hi—I also applied and have been anxiously awaiting results. Based on the update I received, it looks like the board has until mid-July to post award recipient results. So, it could be any day or a few weeks.

Also—maybe no news is good news? I read in other posts that recipients were called if they got selected. I applied for PMHNP also. Good luck to us both!

Me TOO! I have had such a hard time finding forums or anything talking about this scholarship for NPs. I keep trying to find the percentage of acceptance, but nothing... I applied for a DNP program, which they say they will consider this too. I am not sure if my chances decrease because of that or not. I spoke to --------------------, the guy that forwards our completed applications to the board, and he said it takes 30-60 days from the date of receipt to find out if we got it or not. If you guys hear anything fill me in! I hope the acceptance rate is in our favor. ?

Did you receive an e-mail update the first week of June? -------------------------- stated the board was being convened the following week and the board had 30 days to send results back to his “office.“ So, with that said, I am guessing mid-July. I am also only part-time and he stated they would make an exception. I’m guessing they are flexible so my hope is they have MANY slots to fill!

I am currently on this scholarship since last year, if you have any questions let me know ? Best of luck

Yes, I got an email then. I turned my application in 2 days before the closing date, so I had been in contact with him through that week. I am part-time too and DNP. He said they would make an exception for the DNP as well. I did not know you were supposed to be FT though? I didn't see that in the requirements?

2011MSN- do you have any idea the selection rate for this Scholarship? How long is your program, and are you going FT?

Thanks for the info!!

Yes, non-VA employees must be FT; VA employees can be PT; however, he said they’d make exceptions. There is fine print when directed to one of the other sites.

I am hoping for news soon, too! I hope to see us all on the selection list.

I spoke to --------------- today and he did confirm that we have to be FT. ?

I was told they would make exceptions. Don’t give up hope. How long do you have to finish your program?

Any chance you would have time to switch from PT to FT? Scott is great and he will let you know what you would need to do. Easier said than done, I know. That is what I had to do also. FT can be manageable if you are on shift work and your job is flexible a little.

I start my program in August. It's 3yrs if done FT and 4yrs if done PT. It's a DNP program. He said I could submit another academic verification form and plan of study showing FT. I just hope my advisor can get it done in time. She had issues filling it out prior to this and I feel horrible having to ask her to redo it. Ugh, Fingers crossed it works out.
