VA and EC

Published

I am from Virginia and someone showed me a letter from the VA BON and it states that if you are in a distant learning program with less than 500 minimum clinical direct care hours, you have to be finished by 12-31-09 or you will not be able to be licensed in the state of VA, not by endorsement or anything. I just started I have Reprod, Life Span 1,2,3, Transitions, FCCA, Micro, Humanities, possibly Psy, Information Lit., and the CPNE. I will contact my BON on Monday, but I feel sick. This was passed on May 20th of this year. Does anybody know anything about this. I just don't know if I should put it in gear and try to finish or start a traditional program. I really can't afford to go to school three or four days a week. :banghead:

It's only 4 to 6 weeks for them to process you for graduation, not 12 weeks. Thank goodness!!

I though I read where it takes up to 12 weeks. I'm so glad to hear that!

ok so my hubby is army and we move quite a bit, my question is this...does this mean if i finish my program in the amount of time for Va, that i'd be ablt to endorse in? or will they no longer take any endorsements after that date? not that we are planning on having to go to Va, but just in case i'd like to keep on my toes. Each state is so different, i wished it would be a NATIONAL nursing license..a nurse is a nurse for goodness sakes! :)

I think as long as you were an RN by their date, you'd be okay. But I don't know that for sure!

 Sorry to hear about your position. WOW!:o Not much time huh? The good news is that it can be done. Lots of sacrifice and time management. You can do it.;) I keep hearing all kinds of rumors of many states saying no to distance learning programs like EC. Scary isn't it? I hope those of us who have graduated can be the BEST nurses they have ever seen so that someday they'll realize that we work just as hard, are just as capable as those from traditional routes. My prayers go out to you to " kick some butt " and graduate before the deadline.:D

I know that it can be done. I need a little help. Can someone please tell me, How hard is Life Span 1,2,3? What is the wait time if you have to repeat a test and if you have to repeat the CPNE? I just need to know all the facts before I make my decision. Thanks.

I just finished all my test under the new cirriculum and all the Life spans IMO they are hard. You have to get close to 70 % of the material right. Don't get me wrong, I took a test every three weeks. I failed HD2 and Transitions to RN role and had to wait 2 months to repeat. I finished all my test in 6 month 24 days. My friend did all her test in 4 months under the new curriculum. She took a test every 2 weeks. She failed her last test and faxed the head of the nursing department and they let her take it over in 3 weeks. If you start now and study hard it can be done but you need to hurry because if you don't finish all your nursing exams before the FCCA's come out, you have to take those before you apply to the CPNE. Right now I am on the CPNE wait list(applied June 6th) because I finished all my exams before the FCCA came out and they are letting us register. I don't how much longer they will be doing that because they are currently working on them.

Do the FCCA come out in August?

Do the FCCA come out in August?

I have heard all different dates:

August and October just to name a few

If you took tests almost every three weeks or so. What did your study schedule look like? I usually (money permitting) take an exam btw 4-6 weeks. Just depends on how well I know the info.

I used everything I could get my Hands on!

I bought the fundamentals book and read some of that for health safety and bought all of EC practice test! They are a must!

For Chronicity I used the fundamentals book and Med surg.

For reprdoductive I used the maternity book + med surg and Studygroup 101

For HD 1,2,3 & Transitions

I used College network modules, studygroup 101, Lisa Arends, practice test, Minnay, Chancellors

Me a my friend shared books. We got them on Ebay.

Keep in mind I had just graduated from LPN school August 2007 so alot of this was fresh. I studied for Health safety for about 5 day for about 2 hours a day.

oh my gosh. im freaking out because i just started excelsior and live in va.

Sorry, but it applies equally to everyone in a distance learning RN program. I'll give Virginia credit for at least shafting EVERYONE equally, and not just the paramedics. Heh.
