UWOSH Accelerated Nursing May 2016 Cohort

Published

Hi guys. Wanted to start a topic/thread for those applying into the May 2016 cohort, now that the application has opened. Has anyone else noticed on the application that the 2 recommendations are no longer required? Thought this was interesting.

As for me, I'm getting ready to take the TEAS V (Aug 1st) and finishing my CNA course next week with the state exam in August. I have a few months of CNA experience in a long term adult care facility and just got a job as a CNA at a local pediatric long term care facility, which I'm looking forward to since this is the area of nursing I hope to focus on after graduating (peds.) I graduated from the Univ of Pittsburgh back in 2001 with a dual BS in Psych and Business and did most of my post bach work in clinical psych (inpatient, outpatient, step down, peds again..) Applied and was accepted to PA school back in 2002 but decided that being a PA wasn't exactly what I wanted to do so waited, got married, had kids yada yada. Here I am, mid 30s, 2 young boys, applying into UWOSH. How about you? Say hi and introduce yourself so we can get to know one another during this ride. :) :)

Any news for any of you? Just checking in. Nothing new for me.

I haven't heard anything yet. I have to say, the anticipation is killing me!

Nope...nada. But I check my UWOSH email 2x/day! Soon ladies!

Silly question, but how did you go about setting up your UWOSH email? I know I have an account but I was never given instructions on activating it.

Hmm... good question. I remember being like 'how do I access that email account that was set up when I applied to the University?!' And I basically played around with Titan Apps/Web until I figured it out. I access mine thru Gmail/Titan Apps. I think it says somewhere that during application they only communicate thru your UWOSH email, so figured I better spend some time figuring out how to get on there. I could be wrong though! (Try checking the emails the Univ sent you when you were accepted, there might be a link through there.)

I can't remember exactly how I set up my email either. I remember getting something from uwosh after being accepted about my username and then messed around on the website to figure it out. I remember it being kind of weird. I have my uwosh email forwarded to my regular email so I just get the emails from them right away.

Speaking of emails...I got an email to complete the written questions by Friday!

I got that email this morning too! I'm not sure what the written portion of the application is, or what to expect but I'm happy to hear from them!!

I am assuming it will be like an essay portion on an application. Not sure. I assume they probably send this out to everyone who has a completed application in by the due date.

But, I am also happy to hear from them none the less.

I got the email for the essay questions as well. At least we're one step closer!

Hi everyone! I just stumbled upon this thread last night so I thought I'd join in on the conversation. I am applying as well, and just as nervous/anxious as everyone else! What a process!

My undergraduate degree is in Exercise Physiology with a Minor in Biology. I graduated in May 2014 and I have been working as an aide part time since 2011, and full time since I graduated. I work in a long-term acute care facility, so I see some pretty sick patients, but because it's longer term (about 30 days) I get the opportunity to develop a relationship with my patients.

I took TEAS V a couple weeks ago and now I'm just working on the online questions.

GOOD LUCK to everyone!!!

Hi Marheitz! Thanks for the post and introduction.

I too am working as a tech/aide at an acute LTC facility--although I think we're technically speaking 'post acute' because some of the patients are well enough to be mobile with/without a trach whereas others are on ventilators and have severed complex medical conditions. All of mine are pediatric and max out at 18 years. It's 'home' for the majority of the children. It's wonderful to be able to develop those relationships!

Hope your questions went well and best of luck with applying!

Keep in touch with us a long the way and hopefully we'll get to meet in the spring in Oshkosh. :)

Welcome Marheitz! Sounds like you have a lot of applicable experience for the program. Did you always plan to go into nursing or why the transition?

I don't know about everyone else but I'm glad to be done with the questions! They were a tad exhausting :/
