UWOSH Accelerated Nursing May 2016 Cohort

Published

Hi guys. Wanted to start a topic/thread for those applying into the May 2016 cohort, now that the application has opened. Has anyone else noticed on the application that the 2 recommendations are no longer required? Thought this was interesting.

As for me, I'm getting ready to take the TEAS V (Aug 1st) and finishing my CNA course next week with the state exam in August. I have a few months of CNA experience in a long term adult care facility and just got a job as a CNA at a local pediatric long term care facility, which I'm looking forward to since this is the area of nursing I hope to focus on after graduating (peds.) I graduated from the Univ of Pittsburgh back in 2001 with a dual BS in Psych and Business and did most of my post bach work in clinical psych (inpatient, outpatient, step down, peds again..) Applied and was accepted to PA school back in 2002 but decided that being a PA wasn't exactly what I wanted to do so waited, got married, had kids yada yada. Here I am, mid 30s, 2 young boys, applying into UWOSH. How about you? Say hi and introduce yourself so we can get to know one another during this ride. :) :)

Aje, we just moved from Encinitas in February. Have you been out to visit her? It was a tough move. :)

My younger son was born at Scripps Encinitas and my plan is to stay in our area or we'll move back to Encinitas (and Scripps Encinitas will be the place I apply.) It's a wonderful hospital. I wonder if we ever crossed paths in the handful of years I was living there. It's an amazing beach town.

You surely have a family full of nurses! That's amazing. I knew a psychiatric NP in Encinitas too... small world. You don't have any family in the Rancho Santa Fe Vista area (border of Encinitas and Carlsbad) by chance do you? ;)

We actually go out at least once a year but sometimes twice a year. My sister used to have a cute little place on Rosebay right off Encinitas Blvd and then she lived in a place just east of there. Now she lives near Stagecoach park in Carlsbad. But when we go we always spend lots of time at Moonlight beach which is our fav! I love Encinitas!

My neice actually goes to Horizon Prep in Rancho Santa Fe. We always drive through to take her and pick her up if she is school while we are there, but we don't have any family there specifically. I would not be surprised if we crossed paths at some point!

Well I hope we get into the same cohort so we can get to know each other better and if you ever go back my sister could put in a good word for you!

I can imagine that was a tough move. PA is quite a bit different from Socal.

We are headed back the first week in November. I have a dojo for Aikido training off the 101 in Leucadia (Encinitas Aikido) and we're headed out for a seminar. We lived close to Stagecoach, just off Rancho Santa Fe Road. There's a little park there called Sun Vista at that corner (you probably went that way to get your niece if she was in RSF schools. There's the elementary school Olivenhain Pioneer at that corner too.

Moonlight was always one of our favorites (my profile pic on here is from Moonlight.)

Yes, life is very different here in PA but we're enjoying the difference. I have 2 SoCal boys now tho, so the little things--like socks and shoes--can be a struggle. ;) It's fall and the leaves are so pretty now tho. I missed autumn and the big trees of the east coast. The Pacific Ocean is beautiful, but SoCal lacks some pretty woods and trees. So much desert scrubby brush.

When the time comes, I'd love to hear what your sister thinks of Scripps and Rady's! How old is your niece?

And I bet Wyoming is GORGEOUS! Lots of mountains? (Am I confusing it with Montana?) :)

I'm trying to get us to Colorado, but my husband really wants to go back to Encinitas in the future.

Colorado is gorgeous, I'm from there, but I hear good things about Wyoming and now that I'm in Oregon Idaho of all places.

I don't know about all of you but this waiting business is killing me!

Wyoming is a beautiful state, but not all areas are mountainous. Cheyenne is considered high plains but we can see the mountains. Wyoming is a lot colder than Colorado and a lot windier. But we have lots less people, low cost of living, extremely low crime rate, and no state tax. It is a great place to raise kids.

I think Colorado is quite a bit more diverse and lots of people from bigger places are drawn to Colorado. Especially people from the west and east coasts. Wyoming is much more small town and for some more of an acquired taste.

Here is Cheyenne we really get the best of both world. Our town is only 60,000, but we have all the major amenities. If there is something more we want we just head to Colorado. We are 9 miles from the border. 45 minutes to Fort Collins and 100 miles from Denver.

Oh and yes the waiting is making me nuts! I wish we at least had a general time line of when to expect to hear from them. That would be really nice. I feel like we are really left in the dark. Most other schools I have looked at have a general timeline for the application review process.

I also wish they would let you know if you are out of the running earlier. For example, if your application is just not going to cut it and you aren't even in the might be considered group. That way you can start making decisions for yourself.

So I got an email today to set up a phone interview. How about everyone else?

I got the phone interview email as well aje. When are you planning on doing yours?

Snwbal, maybe they are sending them out in waves. I am crossing my fingers you get an email!

I picked three different times on October 27th. I hadn't heard back yet which time it would be though.

What about you Grenledgal?
