  1. A typical week consists of 1-2 tests. They are open book. The tests match the difficulty of the course for each given person. The difficulty of tests increase with the difficulty of the material. They're timed, with some time to look up answers but you have to have a grasp of the material in order to complete within the time frame. On average the majority of students study 8+ hours a day, although this completely depends on the class. The first few classes are less strenuous but the reading load increases as does the difficulty of material, particularly for individuals without any prior healthcare experience. This program needs to be approached like a full-time job, with an equal amount of time committed to it. You do have time for a life outside of school though. I prefer working until my husband comes home and then I'm done for the night. I also try to use the weekends to get ahead a little on reading but I have plenty of time to spend with family and friends.
  2. I'm currently in the May cohort. We get 2 days off in October, about a week starting Christmas Eve and then 2 weeks in March. If your clinical preceptor works a holiday you work it. Christmas is officially the only holiday you get off. We start a class on July 4th. Sometimes you can get ahead on reading. I've been traveling throughout the program. It's a little hectic but doable if you make time for completing what you need to do.
  3. idc1971a, sorry to hear you haven't been happy with the program. From my research on several accelerated programs the cost at UWOSH is very competitive. We're not paying for the 12 months of courses but for the degree itself. I've noticed accelerated programs cost the same as the 4 year programs and this is why; the school wants to recoup how much their Bachelor program in total would cost. Having said that, it is generally less expensive to go the ASN route and bridge to a BSN. For me, the 12 months is more desirable time-wise since the other route would take 2-3 years generally speaking. However, my expectation is I get a quality education. Do other students in your cohort feel similarly?
  4. That's super awesome WIgirl! I know a local school that does something similar. It makes the school's job easier and you get in, win-win!
  5. As Aje said, you do have to become a CNA. I haven't worked as a CNA at all. I have medical social work experience so I was able to emphasis and communicate the clinical skills I've developed being a social worker. As long as you become certified as a NA and communicate your clinical expertise as an RRT I'm sure you'll be fine.
  6. I was accepted!!! So excited! Good luck Jerbear. I've been waitlisted before and it can be hard waiting to hear. That's a great sign though. Like Aje said, some times people will decline admission or clinical sites will fall through so there's always hope! Good luck everyone! It does seem like the emails are going out in waves. Aje and GrenIedGal heard before me and I got my email in the last hour, so keep checking your emails today!
  7. Congrats GrenIedGal! Well, I can't say I'm too confident if you both have received your email but I haven't yet...Maybe it similar to having gotten the interview email later. I sure hope so
  8. When did you get the email Aje?
  9. This wait is killing me! I have a feeling we won't hear until Friday but I'm hoping tomorrow!
  10. So, I just called the CON out of curiosity to see whether or not they're closed today. Turns out they will have people in the office until 3:30 PM their time. So, it's a possibility we still might hear today! We'll see. Hopefully next week if not today but definitely hoping for today!
  11. Totally disappointing Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll email us at the end of today or tomorrow. *fingers crossed*
  12. My thoughts as well Aje. Hopefully tomorrow is the day!
  13. Ugh, I was hoping to hear this week. However, time has flown and next week will be great what with Thanksgiving and time off from work :) Plus, hopefully we'll get the news! I just got my survey this morning Rgorski. It came from Melissa. I emailed them a couple days ago and told them a few of us hadn't received the survey. Hopefully they'll review who has and hasn't received the survey but if you didn't receive it yet and you want to then I would f/u with the ABSN Advisor.
  14. Lol, they are rather annoying. The anticipation is the worst!
  15. I haven't received one yet. I know Aje mentioned she got her about a week after, which is why I was curious about the people who took their's a little bit later.
