UWOSH Accelerated Nursing May 2016 Cohort

U.S.A. Wisconsin

Published

Hi guys. Wanted to start a topic/thread for those applying into the May 2016 cohort, now that the application has opened. Has anyone else noticed on the application that the 2 recommendations are no longer required? Thought this was interesting.

As for me, I'm getting ready to take the TEAS V (Aug 1st) and finishing my CNA course next week with the state exam in August. I have a few months of CNA experience in a long term adult care facility and just got a job as a CNA at a local pediatric long term care facility, which I'm looking forward to since this is the area of nursing I hope to focus on after graduating (peds.) I graduated from the Univ of Pittsburgh back in 2001 with a dual BS in Psych and Business and did most of my post bach work in clinical psych (inpatient, outpatient, step down, peds again..) Applied and was accepted to PA school back in 2002 but decided that being a PA wasn't exactly what I wanted to do so waited, got married, had kids yada yada. Here I am, mid 30s, 2 young boys, applying into UWOSH. How about you? Say hi and introduce yourself so we can get to know one another during this ride. :) :)

Oh and good luck on your CNA exam. I plan to turn my application in after I get my TEAS scores back. I know it doesn't really matter what I get as I plan to apply anyway, but I just want everything done before I turn it in.

Grenledgal thank you for the reassurance! I had plenty of time left on the Math with the practice. I plan to be strategic and be able to answer some of the math questions quickly by eliminating answers. So I hope to be under the time limit. Although I think there are four more actual questions on the exam than on the practice ones.

Thanks for the link for math. I will definitely watch those!

Good plan!!! I too had extra time on all the practice exams, but I made the mistake of "doing" every problem. Just keep it in mind. All the other sections I had LOTS of leftover time.

I'm doing the same, wanting everything together. Although I'm not sure how long it'll take to get the state CNA exam scores, I heard they give you a written "pass-pass" form when you complete the test on test day. So maybe I'll include that and see how long it'll take for the official certificate. Do you guys know how long it took to get yours?

I did get my exam results that day of the exam. It took 10 days for my license to be issued after that.

Hi All,

The scores needed for the individual sections of the TEAS are listed in the application. Look at the TEAS instruction page. I just took it this week and it was pretty hard. I scored well on all sections except math, because I let myself run out of time. Eh. So, I ended up missing 5 questions which meant I missed the program requirement for that section by 5%. Even though I scored well above all requirements for the other three sections, I have to take it again. Not ideal, but at least I know what to expect. Just bummed about paying for it again.

I also confirmed the removal of the recommendation letters today.

I am so nervous about this process. It's good to see a group coming together.

I'm in Eau Claire, WI, which is about the hours east of Oshkosh.

Rgorski,

That is a bummer about the math section. I am taking the TEAS next Friday, the 4th. I am a bit worried, but I am glad I have given myself enough time to retake it before the October 15th deadline.

So not to be pessimistic, but what is everyone's plan if they don't get in? For me personally, I am going to reapply for the October cohort, but I don't know that I would apply again after that. I am willing to give it two tries, but I think I will take another route if I don't get in after that.

Is there anyway to find out how many people applied after the deadline? I am getting more nervous as the deadline approaches....30 slots for a national distance based program almost seems like impossible odds.

Rgorski, sorry to hear about the math section. I too ran out of time and I know it's because I *did* every problem instead of quickly eliminating answers on the ones that I could and working from there. I was still above the needed score for the section but not nearly as well as I did on the practice exams. I considered retaking it, but I"m now thinking I wont.

I just passed my CNA exam yesterday. It was a LONG day! The exam itself wasn't bad, written very similar to our tests and practice exams (a few questions that were a bit questionable tho. The skills wasn't too tough either. I'm just glad it's over with.

I've filled out all the paperwork, my GPA form, copied my CNA test results and plan on mailing in the application early this week. I'm nervous but excited that it's going and out of my hands. :)

aje, we aren't talking about what if we don't get in! We're being optimistic and talking about the weekend orientation when we all meet one another in person. :)

So I officially mailed off my application today! What about everyone else?

Hey Rgorski,

Can paste the link to where UWOSH specifies their TEAS score requirements? I haven't come across that that I know of.

Snwbal, I mailed mine off today too!... it felt good and I took a deep breath, wishing myself calm patience during the next phase: the waiting! :)

Awesome GrenIedGal!

I'm most worried about my limited CNA experience :( I'm confident about everything else.

I am waiting to take the TEAS this Friday, so I will.probably mail it sometime next week. The requirements for the TEAS scores are listed in the application on the TEAS information sheet.

Thanks for the direction Aje122799. I discovered that after asking the questions :p

Good luck on your TEAS!
