UW BSN 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi! I'm applying for the UW BSN for next fall. This is my second time applying to the program and I really want to get in! I thought I would start a discussion so we can all help each other out since the application comes out this month and the essay questions are already out!

A little about myself:

-When I applied for this fall my nursing prerequisite gpa was a 3.0 and I retook one class and I believe now it is a 3.2 which isn't that great but they accept anywhere from a 2.4-4.0 for this fall so I am not too worried about that.

-When I applied for this fall I only had 120 healthcare experience hours and when I apply for next year I'll have well over 1,500.

-I'm also doing a study abroad program in maternal and child health in December before the app is due and this year i managed to get a job at Mary Bridge Children's hospital and recently got hired at Seattle Children's. I also got certified in neonatal resuscitation.

Thanks all! I can't wait to hear back and get some advice!

@ammel--Don't give up. You can fulfill your goal!

I just found this thread because I got an invite to the proctored essay and was trying to find tips on what to expect! Congrats everyone else who got an invite and for those who didn't, don't give up!!

Hi. I was wondering if anyone did not get an acceptance or a rejection notification? I didn't hear anything and was wondering if that means rejection or if there may be another issue. Thanks!

Hey guys,

I went to this years' ABSN proctored essay and got in! I am applying to the BSN too but I may be able to give just a bit more info about the essay (without giving too much away). It was three math questions. Look up nursing dosage questions (ie: dosagehelp.com) online and know a few simple conversions (lbs to kg or mL to L). Then there is an essay where you are presented with three different scenarios for patients and you have to say which one you would choose and why, how you would grow personally/professionally and all that jazz from choosing the patient. Hope that helps!

@shakethedust Thanks for the information. That is very helpful

Hello, I'm new to this thread. This is my second time applying to the BSN program at UW. I just got an email invitation to the proctored essay. Does anyone have any tips on how to study for it? Especially the math portion? I'm so nervous now! Good luck to everyone!

Hello! I went to the ABSN essay as well (I'll be in the cohort this June) and used this awesome website for practicing for the math portion:

If you start here and continue through the related videos she will take you through dimensional analysis, IV drip rate problems, weight-based problems, etc. And if you go to her website, there are quizzes you can take to further practice. This website really helped me get ready for the essay!

Good luck, everyone!

Hi You guys! I am so glad I have found you. I received my invitation last week on Wednesday for the Proctored Essay and have been really nervous since! But definitely excited for this. Good luck everyone!!

Hello,

I have been keeping up with this thread. My stats are I am currently cna right now with an agency. I have more than 1800 hours of cna work with multiple different facilities with in a span of a year. my GPA (both cum. and prereqs) is 3.7 something. I got an invite to the proctored essay and I am looking forward to it. I am also feeling nervous. I got into adn programs as well. but I prefer SU or UW.

Hello! I got an invitation as well. Congrats to everyone to who got one:) I was worried because my stats are pretty low compared to others. I attend a community college at the moment and my stats are: 3.01 GPA, 300 hours of volunteer/internship, active member at my local church. I was surprised I got in. It might have been my essay that saved me. I wish everyone luck and hope we can all get in!

Good luck with the essay today everyone! I'll be cheering you all on and looking forward to hearing your experiences.

Does anyone know if you need to get 100% of the math questions right to be accepted?

Is there correct scenario? Because I feel like the choosing part is the trick just like multiple choice questions.
