Hi! I'm applying for the UW BSN for next fall. This is my second time applying to the program and I really want to get in! I thought I would start a discussion so we can all help each other out since the application comes out this month and the essay questions are already out!
A little about myself:
-When I applied for this fall my nursing prerequisite gpa was a 3.0 and I retook one class and I believe now it is a 3.2 which isn't that great but they accept anywhere from a 2.4-4.0 for this fall so I am not too worried about that.
-When I applied for this fall I only had 120 healthcare experience hours and when I apply for next year I'll have well over 1,500.
-I'm also doing a study abroad program in maternal and child health in December before the app is due and this year i managed to get a job at Mary Bridge Children's hospital and recently got hired at Seattle Children's. I also got certified in neonatal resuscitation.
Thanks all! I can't wait to hear back and get some advice!
Yes, I emailed them asking why the waitlist was so large this year and they replied: "This year we admitted 64 students, we are currently going through a curriculum revision which has affected this year's class size. We do have a larger waitlist because of this change."
I'm just as upset at this because had they actually accepted 96 students I wouldn't have been waitlisted.
I feel a bit cheated after hearing the news. Basically, the people #1~32 on the waitlist would have been admitted into UWSON if there was not a curriculum revision (which was not communicated to us). Does that not feel unfair?
Huge congrats to the people who have been admitted though! Best of luck to you guys.
@chrismpark I agree... it is strange that they would cut down on the number of students when there is a nursing shortage... I think that Seattle U's program has a larger cohort although they are a private institution. I wish that UW had mentioned this news earlier. It's definitely a bitter feeling.
@almondmj
I share your pain. It would have made much more sense to me if they were to publicly announce a curriculum revision and cut the admittance size from 96 to 64 for Fall 2019 rather than this year. We had no prior knowledge of this when applying, and only just found out because someone was told via e-mail. The more I think about it, the more it stings.
