UW BSN 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi! I'm applying for the UW BSN for next fall. This is my second time applying to the program and I really want to get in! I thought I would start a discussion so we can all help each other out since the application comes out this month and the essay questions are already out!

A little about myself:

-When I applied for this fall my nursing prerequisite gpa was a 3.0 and I retook one class and I believe now it is a 3.2 which isn't that great but they accept anywhere from a 2.4-4.0 for this fall so I am not too worried about that.

-When I applied for this fall I only had 120 healthcare experience hours and when I apply for next year I'll have well over 1,500.

-I'm also doing a study abroad program in maternal and child health in December before the app is due and this year i managed to get a job at Mary Bridge Children's hospital and recently got hired at Seattle Children's. I also got certified in neonatal resuscitation.

Thanks all! I can't wait to hear back and get some advice!

I dropped by the SON to drop off my waitlist compliance form and the woman at the front desk said that the admissions team was also not happy about only choosing 64 students and said they tried to argue it. So, it is a very unfortunate situation but I do not think the school knew much ahead of time. She also said that she thinks they'll be able to accept a larger amount of students again next year.

That is so wrong. It should have been voiced from the beginning. At the proctored essay they said they would take 96. Now with this delemma they should take the waitlist and have them admitted for next year.

Largely unfair. I think it's unforthcoming and dishonest. The whole situation it's a bad taste in my mouth about UW.

@hra7-Thanks for sharing the info with us.

I agree fully with your comment. If it were any other year, we would have been admitted. What was it about this year that they decided to go ahead with it? :\

@chrismpark--I wish they would tell us. It is very frustrating knowing that we would have made it. Did they lose instructors or something like that?

On their website "Dean's Blog" they talked a month or so ago about changing the BSN/ABSN undergrad curriculum. So it appears do do with that somehow.

Welcome to spring quarter! | School of Nursing

I am disappointed that they did not inform us. Is there anyway to express our concern? I feel like the wailisted people (myself included) should do something to advocate for ourselves.

@ytoz I agree. I understand if we were forewarned about the cut in available spots, but they did not even think to mention it to us until after decisions were sent out. But we were all waiting under the assumption that 96 would be accepted. And now they tell us that the spots they cut were waitlisted....

I can only think to email, call, or visit them directly. But then again, I'm just utterly crushed and can't help but feel it won't make a difference.

With 64 students instead of 96, there are less people and so there is a smaller chance of being moved off of the waitlist too... I can see why they took extra time this year with sending out admission decisions.

That's not fair they decided to change the amount of students let into the program without saying anything beforehand. It really sucks knowing that if they took the original 96 students pretty much everyone on the waitlist would have made it... Do you think they could still change it back and take the waitlist people?

Who would we direct our concerns to?
