UW ABSN 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone! Just wanted to start a forum for those applying to University of Washington's ABSN program for Fall 2020. I'm applying from California and unfortunately, I don't have any healthcare experience working directly with/under nurses as I'm an ophthalmic technician. I graduated last year with a BS in Health Science with a focus in Community Health.

Any feedback/advice on becoming a stronger applicant are welcome, or sharing your progress in the application is great too! Thanks! ?

Thanks amazing! Thank you! Are you from Kansas!? Do you know difficulty of either of those classes? I need to retake o chem because I didn’t get a B and I have to retake phys because it’s “too old” haha

Shoooo, I have no idea how difficult it is. That's why I'm just taking lifespan right now while I prepare my mind to take the hard science classes lol. One little caveat though, you have to take chemistry 2 as a prerequisite before you can take O-Chem. ? If you want, we can take them together and kinda help each other or study or whatever we need. I'm in the process of trying to find an online organic chemistry course that doesn't require chemistry 2 as a prerequisite. I'll let you know if I find one. I've never taken O-chem, so it's definitely the one I'm most concerned about.

I'm actually in Seattle. My family and I just moved here from the Bay Area just about 3 months ago. I just found the online school because I knew there was no way I would be able to take the classes in-person with my fluctuating schedule, so I googled "online organic chemistry course for credit" lol. Are you in Seattle as well?

I am north of Seattle but willing to meet for study sessions! That would be really cool actually! I have taken O chem recently but it’s not a strong point! I have taken an entire chemistry sequence in the past, will just need to see if it meets their requirements. I applied the the cc, just waiting for acceptance they said like 24 hours! I work at Providence so I have fluctuating hours as well!

Awesome! I'll send you a PM with my number.

I'm sure your credits will meet their requirements. Yep, you should hear back today from them.

I emailed you my number!

shoutout to everyone providing useful, and accurate information! I try to lurk the forums to help alleviate any stress but haven't been able to lately.

With the ABSN deadline soon approaching, please feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any questions. Also, please be patient with our general line (front desk and [email protected] email) as we are in the process of training a new employee!

Good luck everyone!

Best of luck to everyone adding the finishing touches to their applications this week! ?

Hey everyone!

So glad I came across this thread as it seems I'm not the only one nervous about applying! Everyone has such awesome backgrounds! Here are some of my stats...also happy to bounce ideas or chat through anything if anyone needs any assistance.

Undergrad at UW: 2.84 (low partially to do with being on the track team full-time & partially from working part-time on top of school full-time ?)

Prereqs: 3.97 (I've taken all of the classes needed to start)

Experience: I have about 250 hours of volunteer experience at an HIV/AIDS shelter & clinic. I also have about 240 hours of being a primary caregiver to my dad when he was on hospice, although I don't think I'll be able to add that to my experience as the nurse that had worked with us unfortunately passed so I'm not able to get a reference but it was an awesome experience to be a part of and I'm hoping to go into hospice once I get my degree. It's been hard to get the hours though since my job requires me to travel for work and I have a team to manage.

Other/Misc: I have a few certifications I've taken to assist with my volunteering like HIV/AIDS education, Suicide Prevention and general CPR/First aid knowledge. Outside of that, I've been a part of Girls on the Run as an extracurricular.

Good luck to everyone as you make your final edits for your applications!

Hey has anyone taken this proctor exam before or have any insight on how to best prepare this exam next Tuesday. I’m a little nervous about the math portion and not sure if I should be studying how to do dosage calculations.

would love any insight!
