UW ABSN Summer 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone! Since applications will open within the next 2 months for the University of Washington's Accelerated Nursing Program for the Summer of 2018, I figured I would go ahead and start this article to start sharing knowledge and supporting each other through the next 6-12 months of preparation.

I am 35 years old and applying for this program after 18 years in telecom.

I look forward to "meeting" everyone!

What's the time limit? Will they email us at all or just email our proctors?

So I'm starting to get a bit annoyed. I am from Illinois and mailed my application certified mail September 28th. After not having delivery confirmation after a week, I emailed UW to inquire about it and ask their suggestions (thinking I was going to have to resend, which wasn't going to make it on time). Never heard back. The next day, I submitted a request to USPS to find out what happened. Their investigator emailed me and said he'd spoken with UW and they assured him it had been delivered to the appropriate office. I calmed down. Deadline was 23 hours ago. I still haven't received any acknowledgment that they have received my application or confirmation that I should show up to the proctored essay on Thursday. I emailed them again this afternoon (Tuesday) and still no response. This is seriously unacceptable. Has anyone gotten any communication from them yet?

The in-person session is scheduled for an hour, so my guess is 45 minutes after instructions and all that.

Okay. So I'm starting to get a bit annoyed. I am from Illinois and mailed my application certified mail September 28th. After not having delivery confirmation after a week, I emailed UW to inquire about it and ask their suggestions (thinking I was going to have to resend, which wasn't going to make it on time). It's my understanding that unless you delivered your application in person, you aren't going to get any sort of confirmation that they received it. I'm in the same boat as you-- applying from California, never heard back if they received my application packet let alone the online application I emailed in, and haven't heard anything about the essay. They have until 5pm today though I guess?

I just got an email back to the email that I sent today that said that they aren't sending confirmations due to high application volume. Seems really unprofessional given I traveled 1600 miles theoretically on a whim because they can't be bothered to put together a mail merge database and I'm not the only one in this boat. I have an email from The post office saying they got it, though, so if I run into issues Thursday, I pretty much have proof it's on them. Also not sure why they couldn't send that email on the 9th when I notified them something went awry with the mail.

My understanding is that it's typically pretty basic dosage calculations. So if you know how to do unit conversions and you pay attention to details, you should be fine.

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to chime in to help clarifying some things regarding the ABSN Applications and Proctored Essay.

1. We are not able to confirm receipt of your ABSN Application. ABSN Admissions is an extremely busy time, that involves the processing of many applications. During this week, we are opening applications, sorting all of the documents, scanning each individual form, pairing transcripts that have been sent separately, and double checking GPA information that was entered in the application. We need to complete all of these steps for the hundreds of applications we receive, with limited staffing, within a short time frame. When an applicant calls and asks us to check to see if we received their application, we become pulled away from our tasks and have to sort through stacks of applications, which have not been placed in alphabetical order. Please trust me when I say this would create a major delay in the process. A delay in the process would create a delay in the reviewing, which would delay your admissions results.

I understand this can be frustrating for those who HAVE to mail their applications in. I have suggested to applicants in the past to have mail be sent via UPS or FedEx so that someone at the School of Nursing can sign for your application. This signature typically acts as your confirmation receipt.

2. The proctored essay is scheduled for 1 hour. We will give instructions ten to fifteen minutes before, and then we give you the entire hour to complete the proctored essay. No invitations will go out as Cpark96 pointed out. Everyone applying to the ABSN is required and expected to take it.

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact [email protected].

For those taking the proctored essay at the School of Nursing, i'll see you all on Thursday!

Good luck!

Manager of Undergraduate Admissions

adri.aco , thank you so much for the clarification about the Proctored Essay.

I have read on the previous UW ABSN/BSN posts on this site, that folks who are waitlisted/denied through this program, are able to learn so much from the application process and use the experience as a guide to prepare to apply for the UW BSN program which is due in Dec. 2017. So, just a heads up, I would start considering that program, which is a lot cheaper, even if it is just a few quarters longer. However, this proctored essay should really be an opportunity to make our whole application stronger, proving that we may have the skillset and knowledge to become great nurses through this prestigious institution.

Just a little bit about myself, I am have been working as a CNA for over two years in assisted living facilities, nursing homes/rehabs, and outpatient clinics. I haven't applied to any nursing programs until this year, and will be applying to both the UW ABSN/BSN program, SU BSN/DNP (since I have a BA), and also other schools out-of-state, such as OHSU.

I know this is something folks may worry about, financially being able to afford such a costly program, but seek your options. From scholarships, to loans, and even loan forgiveness programs. I was able to learn that WA State has a really good loan forgiveness program, so whatever nursing program you decide on pursuing, I recommend having a plan for that as well.

Anyway, I hope you all have used the links previously commented on this trend because they were very useful, thanks to those who linked them up. And good luck to you all with the proctored essay! Hope to hear how you all did! :)

I APOLOGIZE ABOUT THE UW BSN PROGRAM DUE DATE, THE DUE DATE SHOULD BE IN MID JAN. 2018.

(Dec. 2017 is for SU, so sorry for the confusion it may have caused)

Uw bsn 2018 is not due until mid jan 2018. Sorry for the confusion.

@calihusky16 if you don't mind sharing what is the name of the loan forgiveness program in WA you found?

This is one of the websites you can explore through the WA DOH:

Loan Repayment Programs :: Washington State Department of Health

This next one is the one I was recommended by a Recruiter from Yakima, WA, when I told her that I was pursuing a career in nursing but did not have the funds.
