UTMB Summer '09 Applicants

Hey, don't give up ok. There are still some files being reviewed, and more people will be invited to an interview. If it doesn't work out, then we can always try again. Trust me. I have already been rejected from 2 other schools. I know what it's like, but they will let you retake 2 classes. We can also work towards a CNA, or take pharmacology. Anything that will look good on our application.

I went through 2 years of school as an art major, so I made B's in a lot of relatively easy classes. I didn't realize how difficult that was going to make my life, until I started pursuing my BSN. I am still hoping and praying that I have a chance with UTMB. If not summer, then fall.

Congrats! Yeah, when I called she checked my file for me. She said it looked pretty good, and that it's still in committee. She said they have a few more files that they are going over, and that I might still get an e-mail. The first batch of e-mails has already been sent out, but there may be another?? I don't know, it also depends on how many people decline the offer.

Bazooka, what did you say to the person you spoke with for him/her to check your file because when I spoke to them, they said they can't give out that information over the phone...?

I asked her if the e-mails have been sent out, and she said "yes". Then I asked if there was any way she could check my file. She asked for my ID, and then said my file was still in committee. She said the committee was still going over a few files, and there is a possibility I might hear something soon. She said it looked like all my classes and everything was complete, so it's possible I could still get an interview. Then she said it also could depend on how many people decide to attend UTMB. It was all really fast. I am trying to remember as best I can. The answers I got were kind of vague, but she was really nice. She was trying to be encouraging (i probably sounded pretty depressed on the phone...). So I guess there are a few more files that they are going over today, because apparently, there has not been an absolute "yes" or "no" decision on my file.

Hmmm, thanks for that information. I find it weird that debramccord, that you received a call instead of email. I am looking out at both calls and emails but nothing yet. I spoke to someone at the school of nursing and they said that my file was processed, but she wasn't too excited. It seemed that she had bad news, but couldnt tell me. All she did tell me though was that my file was processed and that all I can do is wait. :cry:

I don't know how good my chances are, especially since I am not one of the first to be selected for an interview. If I manage to get an interview, then I will have to seriously impress them. I just hope I get that opportunity. It is easier to deal with rejection when you've at least had an opportunity to sit and talk with them. It is harder when you are judged purely on your academics. There is only so much I can do to improve my transcript. I am still trying to be hopeful, but it's never easy to be in this position.

I agree with you. Bazooka, I am sorry to keep bothering you, but you stated earlier that we can only repeat 2 classes? Where did you hear that, because in the past I have repeated more than 2 classes in order to bring up my GPA. I hope that didn't throw me out from being selected.

I was just getting off the elevator when my cell phone went off but missed the call. I sat down at my desk and looked up the number that called and it was a 409 number. I thought I don't know anyone from a 409 number so I went online and looked up the number and it was registered to UTMB. I immediately started calling it but no one answered. About ten minutes later I got a call on my office number and it was the admissions office. I was so excited I forgot to write the lady's name down. She asked me what class I was taking at SanJac and I told her Pathophysiology and she said so you have your exam May 6th and I said yes. Then she ask if I would like to come in for an interview March 13th and I said I would love to. We talked about Galveston's hardship after IKE for a moment then that was it. she said someone would call me later with an interview time. I went online but my file still shows pending.

I was reading the SON bulletin last night, and that's where I got some of the information. It may not be entirely correct....seeing how it also says prerequisites include CNA certification and pharmacology (which I don't think is entirely correct since it doesn't state this on the main website). However, I don't know for sure. It's one of the things I was planning to ask them about.

I don't know if you are only allowed to retake 2 classes for sure. I was just trying to come up with any information I could find from the website. That might be an older bulletin, so I'm not sure if this policy has changed or not.

Well, I guess I will keep checking until the end of the week and if I do not receive anything then I will call back next Monday. Hopefully, I will hear something for Fall 2009. Good Luck to all those who got an interview!!! Hope you guys to GREAT!!! =)
