UTMB Summer '09 Applicants

I hope everyone here does well on their interview. I wonder how big the applicant pool is, and how many people are getting an interview. If I don't hear anything, then I might go to the open house on march 14 to get some answers. If it doesn't work out, then I will take a couple classes over the summer. Hopefully, it will work out for the fall!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Hey everyone.. sorry that i didnt get to respond sooner...

To tell you the truth.. I have no idea what my GPA is bc.. I went to 4 different schools (UH, San Jac, Lone Star, HCC) and so... i dont really have a good idea what my final GPA is.. but.. I know I did pretty well in my science pre-req... got an A in everything, but a B in patho at San Jac =(

I did applied for the Spring 09 accelerated prgm, but didnt get in.. so at that time... Ms. Carmical said I would have a higher chance getting into the summer 09 progm.

Im not sure how many slots are open for the Summer 09 program.. but i know.. not everyone is going to accept.. so... be hopeful... u never know...

OnLyOnE11288-- I have a question-- so you spoke to the lady and she said they granted 60 applicants?! I read somewhere that only there were only 40 slots -- am i wrong?!

Yes, I spoke to Ms. Mahoney and she said that there were a total of 300 applicants for the summer and they are accepting 60. She said not all 60 have received the emails and she said that out of 60, maybe 10 will decline the offer and then they refer to their wait list. Let's see. I'm still praying, but I mostly know that I won't get it. Good Luck to you!!!! =)

I'm praying that I'm one that hasn't received an email yet. haha. Do they only interview 60? I would think that they would interview maybe 100, and out of that they would choose the best 60. Oh well. I guess if you are one of the lucky ones who get an interview, you have to royally disappoint them for them to say "no". I am still going to pray and pray. Thank you so much for your info. Maybe persistence will help us. If not for summer, then I will cross my fingers for fall.

I did get an e-mail a while back from UTMB saying that they are encouraging students to apply, and that they are increasing their enrollment for Summer. It also said they planned to increase enrollment for fall, so be sure to apply. Maybe that is why they are taking 60 students instead of 45. I think it's because of the hurricane, and they are trying to keep students interested in attending school there. (or for funding purposes)....but hey, I'm excited they're opening up more slots. It could make someone's dream come true.

Bazooka and OnlyOnE11288 dont give up hope. It can really drive you crazy having to jump through all the hoops for different nursing schools only to be turned down before you get a chance to show them who YOU are and not just a student ID number. Another downside to that is you never know why so you can improve whatever they saw on a piece of paper. Keep your head up and keep pushing forward to your goal. Even though I received rejection letters, I kept retaking classes to better my GPA. Someone said in an earlier post that you can only retake 2 classes. Well I've retaken A&P I, Nutrition, English, World History and Pathophysiology so I don't see that being true. Of course I just have an interview not an acceptance letter yet but I can't believe that would be held against you. Trust me If people knew what I've been through to get to this point I know they would have given up long ago. I always say to myself PUSH. Pray Until Something Happens. You never know whats around the next corner. That interview will come just be patient.

Well, I guess I am getting different answers from different people. I got an email from UTMB saying that they are only accepting 40 students for the summer and they are not sure how many applied. I think 300 sounds about right to me, but regardless, they are only accepting 40. I would suspect they would accept more people in the Fall.

Really? I didn't receive an e-mail from them. I wonder if they are sending them to everyone. I wish I knew more about this. Maybe I will call them tomorrow.

Oh ok. This is depressing....

At least they responded to you. I don't like sending e-mails and leaving voicemails, only to get no response. I guess if I don't hear anything I will have to come up with a new plan. I'm just going to be happy with what I have, and hope for the best. Sometimes good things come when you least expect it, and other things are meant to be. I really don't mind waiting a whole lot. I'm a really patient person. The only thing that frustrates me is the fact that my husband and I are waiting for me to get OUT of nursing school before we start a family. I'm still young (thank goodness), but I hope it doesn't take 6 or so years for me to be a nurse. I already have 2 associates degrees, and if I go into something else it would only take 2 more years for my bachelor degree. The thing is, I want to be a nurse. I don't want to go into something else, so I guess I'll work harder. Try again. Who knows.

Oh my goodness!!! I was writing that long depressing email, and guess what!!! I received an invitation for an interview!! I can't believe it. This is a miracle.
