UTMB Summer '09 Applicants

Published

I'm wondering who applied for the UTMB Summer 2009 semester, and if they have received any news from UTMB. My status says "pending", and all my information was received. I don't know how big the applicant pool is considering the hurricane. I haven't seen any news on here about UTMB recently, so anything is appreciated. Thanks.

I'm sorry you are going elsewhere. I know its been frustrating but to be honest they all seem that way to me. I think they get overwhelmed by all the applications, phone calls and emails because everyone wants in and they only have so many spots. I thought the same of UT-Houston because they tell you one thing in the information session and base their decisions on something else. I think with the hurricane that just made UTMB's situation that much more difficult to work around. I hope you success in wherever you decide to go. I have been trying for two years to satisfy all the requirements for different school and I'm taking this chance because I think it will get worse in terms of getting in anywhere.

thanks DM, I decided to go to local college in fall. It isnt so rushed and is probably allot easier and student friendly in my opinion. I dont like being rushed when I applied almost a year ago. It is a bad sign of what lies ahead in my opinion. I will get my bsn online later. I hear it is a pretty simple process. Good luck to ya!

PRAISE GOD!!! I FINALLY GOT THE EMAIL!!!! YAY!!!! OMG! OMG! Congratulations you guys! IM SOOOOOOOOO HAPPY!

Mathwizard--- dont get discourage. dont let that bother you... you should think abt it again.. i mean.. it's just one year.. n then we'll all be nurses!

Well, as you all know, I did not get an interview for UTMB's Summer Program, so I am hoping for Fall. I did however get accepted for Fall elsewhere, but really really want to go to UTMB. If not, hey, at least I have a back up plan. =( Please pray for me.

We will pray for you LuckyNurse28! Don't give up!

Congrats everyone who got in! I am SOOO excited about orientation! I am SOO glad I took this spring semester off. I'm anxious about the next 15 months, and I'm looking forward to being a part of UTMB!! YAY!!!

Just got my acceptance email. YAY! So much for the ADN program I am currently enrolled in.

Oh and btw.. LuckyNurse, don't give up! I didnt get accepted last year. I took an alternative and started an ADN program instead. Time will tell if the time I spent in that class will help, so it won't be a complete loss.

Thanks guys! That is good to hear. I do wish to keep it a possibility of moving over to UTMB even after starting the program at the other nursing school, but let's see.

Thanks for the hope guys! You guys do make me feel a lot better!

Mathwizzard... no offense but how is UTMB unprofessional just because you have not heard anything from them? When most schools, including UTMB, make decisions for acceptance they make 3 categories... #1 Definitely Yes, #2 Definitely No and #3 Maybe.... the deal is, most people apply to multiple schools and get accepted at multiple schools... so they end up declining spots, and then admissions committees bring out the Maybe list and start calling...

I can honestly say that if you want to be successful in a nursing program and the medical field, you need to learn the term "flexibility" real quick... because things are always changing and you have to be able to adapt to new rules, new schedules, changes here, people "forgetting" to tell you things there... that's just the way things are....

Since I see you are declining the offer from UTMB to go somewhere else that might be a good thing for you personally... one- it opens up a spot for someone who actually wants to attend UTMB, and two- the culture of the student body and faculty at UTMB is one of comradely, support and honestly it is a very happy place. Good luck in your career :)

Also CONGRATS to all you happy lucky people who have been accepted, you won't regret it... I truely loved my time at UTMB and I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. The friendships I made with fellow students and faculty were amazing. UTMB really prepared me to be a professional nurse and I hope you all get to experience the same things I did! Good Luck and congrats again!

Point well made AggieQT:) Flexibility becomes almost second nature after you complete the first semester of nursing school.

Congrats to all who have been accepted...welcome to the UTMB family! Best of luck!

Wow! everyone is so concerned with me. I feel so special. I am happy some graduates are so friendly and joyful. Many apply to multiple schools because they want to go where it feels right for them! Not just to a school that will take them. If only people would learn to read an entire message before responding to it. It has been a very unprofessional application process for me! In my opinion. You didnt experience what I have, so save the second guesses please. Is it a great school? Probably or else they would have went out of bussiness a long time ago. I never attended but my life experience has shown me that first impressions are usually correct. I didnt get a good impression with my short experience at school. Sorry to offend you highly educated, trained, and very wise graduates. On flexibility, you readers are so wise. I learned you have to know when to walkaway or accept or decline an offer and I did that. I dont think I will regret it. It isnt the only game in town people. I love this high school mentality of being so proud of your school. I gave that up a long time ago. Schools are just tools to get you where you want to go. Thats it! They also do need our money from tuition dont believe they do this for the humanity of it sorry to say. Maybe I should reconsider going since you had such a great time, atmosphere, support, and it was so happy. You loved it! It was amazing! You should be a recruiter for the Marine corps Ha! I dont think nursing is for you because you are missing your calling in life Aggie. Nursing is about helping people not about what school is happy and fun or which college you end up graduating from! Start the flames now. I wont respond again so have fun people with too much time on your hands.

Hmmm. What a sad misguided individual. Clearly offense was taken, my bad.

For those of you who have been accepted, know this... you get what you put in to school... if you are there to learn and learn only, then that great and that is your choice totally...

but I encourage you to look at the more human aspect of life (and nursing). Life is about relationships and people, and as future nurses you will be interacting with all different kinds of people. Take the time to see the humanity in each situation, that people are not just objects to "help" (in the medical model), but are real breathing individuals, each with a different story to tell... Nursing takes in the whole person (Body, Mind & Spirit) not just the medical issues at hand... one of the many reasons why I love my chosen profession...

also the people who will be surrounding you in school (both classmates and faculty) take the time to listen to their stories, to build relationships as it will only enhance your life and make you a more compassionate empathetic nurse.

I won't be running away if any of you ever have any questions or comments for me. Feel free to PM me anytime, if you have any questions about the program or about life as a student nurse :)

Hello guys!

I am not getting involved in anything that you guys are saying, but just wanted to share what happened with me today. I went to a clinic to get my TB shot, and the Nurse Practitioner there asked me where I wanted to go. I told her I was very interested in UTMB and she told me that she got her BSN from there and it is a great school. Then she asked me about the process after the hurricane and I told her it became slow and that some people don't find out until about one week before classes. She then proceeded to tell me to stay away from that. She said that if its going slow now, anything might happen and you don't want to jeopardize your education with that. I felt bad after she said that, but I STILL want to go to UTMB! lol

Then, I went to my CPR class and met a girl who told me that she got accepted to TWU and she had called and called the people at UTMB to find out if she got in for Fall and they told her to try again and apply for Spring...? I was unsure as to what she was talking about so I asked her and she said basically if I hadn't heard anything yet, I shouldn't expect to and to know that it was bad news. That made me feel even worse.

But even after all that, I STILL want to go to UTMB! Am I crazy or what?! lol, I am still hoping and praying...but just thought I would share my experiences with you guys. Congrats to you lucky ones, I hope I get something...but now I feel like I am on the "Def Not" list.

-still hanging in there though....-
