Hey Guys!
I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for all UTMB Galveston's Spring 2012 traditional bsn applicants. Have you all started to apply yet or at least looked at the application? What do you think? How are your personal statements/testing going? If you guys have anything worth discussing please post and good luck to all!
i just called and she said they have only looked at half, tomorrow they will be looking at the other half so we should hear something by the end of the week. hopefully!
i also got an interview invite today around 3:40. however, just out of curiosity, what number do you guys call? i've been trying to get a hold of someone from son for weeks, but no one answers the phone. good luck to those waiting...i'm sure you'll be hearing something tomorrow!

you will probably get the most accurate information from the number that was provided in your interview invite email...
Just got my interview details in an email.... wednesday at 9am :) so super excited but nervous!!!!
That's twice you've been notified in less than 4 days... good luck! Still nothing here. I got my acceptance email from UTHSCSA today, and I'll have to say... everybody complains that nursing schools are all so disorganized; however, UTHSCSA has really impressed me with the timeliness and professionalism in their application and acceptance process. It seems to be very organized to me, which I agree is odd.
One down, 3 to go... still crossing my fingers.
I agree, however, I like the fact that they look passed the scores to see the whole person's capabilities. Nursing is so much more than learning from a book. The art of helping people heal could never be captured in words simply written on a piece of paper in a book. The art of helping people heal can never be fully measured by science and because of this it would simply be unfair to measure somebody's ability to help people based soley on their testing performance. This is what holistic nursing is about. And I for one, a 3.4 gpa and 74.9% TEAS, am so glad utmb treats the whole person. Some of my skills can't be measured on paper :-)
There is definitely more to being a nurse than pencil and paper. However, this doesn't change the fact that the school is still deeming you competent, based upon your prior school performance and stats, to make it through their grueling program and pass the NCLEX (both of which require you to be a good student) upon degree completion.
So regardless of how much we care for other people and think we would make a great nurse, the first and foremost paramount factor that the school considers is how well they think you'll do in their school. Period. That's why GPA and an entrance test are involved.
You have already proven that you meet the minimum qualifications in the prior education aisle... your interview was scheduled to see what else there is about you that would make you a good nurse, like you said. So in reality, they didn't look past anybody's GPA or test scores at all... it was among the first things considered for each of us.
Congrats though!
