UTMB Spring 2015 Applicants

Published

Hey Y'all,

I read through the whole UTMB Fall 2014 thread and thought I'd start the next semesters thread (because I couldn't find one). I know the application doesn't close until May 31st, but thought it would be helpful to start this now.

Thank you! I'm studying for my HESI since I have it soon but once I'm done with it I'm planning on studying for the TEAS hopefully is not much of difference even though I have heard the TEAS is much harder than the HESI. ?

Science is all one section. I studied for a week or so and took it.

I took the TEAS first and HESI second. I found the HESI 10x easier. Some think the opposite though. Nonetheless, best of luck on both exams!

Thank you so much! I'm very nervous about all of these. What makes the TEAS harder than the HESI.

The HESI was just easy overall. The math portion I got a 100 on both TEAS and HESI. It was pretty basic stuff. DO KNOW your metric conversions like kg to g and cups in a pint etc. You don't need to know this on the TEAS, I believe. The science was difficult on the TEAS because it was a combination of A&P, Bio and Chem. Depending on what school you're applying to, some only require A&P on the HESI. I didn't take the Bio and Chem portions because I didn't need it, so I don't know how easy or difficult it is. The reading and language portion are tolerable, the TEAS is just a little more challenging but if you study the TEAS V McGraw hill study guide, then you should be fine.

The HESI has a critical thinking portion where you're given a scenario and the answer choices are all correct but you have to find the BEST answer. You basically have to think like a nurse. I scored pretty low on this part because I was second-guessing my answers. Just take your time reading each answer choice. Use process of elimination and identify the patient in the scenario because that usually will give you clues.

Wow thank you so much for all that information. For the HESI I don't need bio or Chem just A&P but for the TEAS I do. That's why I'm worry a little for the TEAS. Are you currently in a nursing school?

No. I applied for spring 2015. I'm wait listed at UTMB and I haven't heard back from UTHSC yet.

Those are the schools I'm applying to. Haven't started the process/application for UTMB since I still haven't been able to sign up for the TEAS (not sure how to) But good luck to you hopefully you get accepted to both or at least one! What's your number 1 school?

UTHSC is my #1 choice because it is closer to me. But both are great schools and I would be happy with either one :) if I get in to utmb and not the other, I am committed to renting a house in galveston

That's good!! Well hopefully you hear back from both schools and get an acceptance letters/emails ?

Just got the waitlist email for UTMB... if anyone decides not to attend or if anyone gets accepted on the waitlist, can you guys let us know? I'm curious as to how many ppl like I am are also hoping to get into UTMB from the waitlist. Best of luck to everyone still waiting!

I have been accepted to UTHSC, and considering I live fifteen minutes from it, I will be withdrawing from UTMB. For those on the waitlist, acceptances for UTHSC are going out and I know many have applied to both, so I'm sure a few spots will be opening soon.
