UTMB FNP Fall 2015?

Published

Hey all, just thought I start a thread for UTMB fall 2015 FNP Prospects.

I am a current RN working in SA, I actually have applied to UTHSCSA and UTMB. I am in the process of applying to Texas State and Angelo State as well. Don't know which school I'll choose in the end but just seeing if there are any fellow nurses out there in the same application process :)

Congrats everyone! I will be attending UTHSCSA this Fall. Prayers to everyone still waiting to hear back from UTMB. I still haven't heard from them, but was accepted to Angelo State too. Hopefully they will send admission letters out soon!

Hi all,

I still haven't heard back from UTMB either. I've already been accepted into FNP at UTHSC-Houston and TWU Houston. Has anyone heard which program is better from the three? I have heard that UT Houston finds your FNP clinicals for you, whereas TWU & UTMB does not? Is that true?

Anyone have any feedback regarding FNP at UT-Houston, UTMB, or TWU?

Congrats on your acceptance to TWU and UTHSC! From my understanding, UTMB does help with clinical placement. I could not wait, however, to hear back from UTMB since both UTHSCSA and Angelo State required me to accept/decline within a week! So I had to make my choice and fast. I feel I made the right choice in the end. I cannot speak on which program is best for FNP but they are all great, reputable schools. Whichever you choose, I wish you best of luck.

I just learned that UTMB FNp requires 49 hours while UT houston only requires 41 hours, so this will make the fee higher, plus it is not in Houston town. UT Houston suppose to be a better school, why UTMB needs more credit hours? anyone knows why?

DO you know how many times need to travel to campus every week? thanks!

do you know where the clinical will be, is it in Houston or Galveston? thanks!

which one you decided to go and why? thanks!

GoodKick01, The UTMB program is considered to be an Online program though my understanding is that you do make a few visits to the campus throughout the program (one is the two day orientation at the beginning - August 24th and 25th for those of us starting this fall) but this is by no means required weekly or even monthly. I believe they attempt to assign your clinical sites as close to your home as they can...I live west of town in Katy, for instance, and would prefer clinical sites on that side of town. I already have several doctors that I work with that have asked if I can do clinicals with them...I have no idea if that will be permitted or not! THOSE are questions I hope will be answered at the orientation in August! While it is very difficult to find a reliable resource for school rankings for FNP programs, I do know that UTMB, consistently ranks in the top 10 in the nation! Since there are as many ranking systems as there are schools out there, I think that speaks pretty highly for the school! Good luck to us all!

I'm currently working at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, and was told 2-3 days a semester you need to be on campus. Also if you do not live in the Houston/Galveston area then you have to find your own clinical placement. Otherwise they will assist you.
