  1. Hey all, I will be graduating next May with my MSN for Pediatric NP! It's been a very interesting journey this last year and a half from beginning a graduate school program, to having my first child, then having to change jobs to accommodate my school schedule. It's been busy to say the least, but with that said, I definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel. My husband and I have decided to relocate from where we currently live to either Austin or Houston. If anyone has any knowledge, I'd like to pick your brain . What's the job opportunity like for a new Pediatric NP in the Houston or Austin area? Did you establish contacts early on in finding a job? I grew up in Houston and my husband is from the Austin area, but I'm not well-versed on the job market for Pediatric NPs in either area. I research every now and then just to see which opportunities I see online, and it looks like Houston has the majority of positions out of both cities. So any information will help out . Thanks in advance! Jazz.
  2. I was accepted and start this fall! I will continue working nights as well. And how exciting, wishing you the best of luck!
  3. Hey all!! I'm part of the graduate class of 2017, studying to become a nurse practitioner! I feel like a nursing student all over again... excited, nervous, determined, and all the above! Good luck to everybody in their scholastic and professional careers! #nursesrock
  4. I work in the NICU and love what I do. It does become stressful, but what job isn't? I've been a nurse for 2.5 years and starting my MSN program this fall :). I will say having experience is better than going in without any. Have you considered working in another department? I can say I LOVE being a nurse and we all aren't mean, hateful, or eat our young :).
  5. Hello, I just like to chime in. I see both sides of this argument. However, take into consideration that although these programs are direct-entry, a good number of students still work while they are in school. So essentially they are working and gaining experience prior to actually starting their clinical preceptorships.
  6. Yup! Well, originally born in Houston. I'm so excited to be back in school! Do you plan to continue to work while in school?
  7. I was recently accepted to 2 of the 3 programs I applied for. I have yet to hear from the third program. My GPA was a 3.3 when I graduated from nursing school. Not perfect, but still above the minimum requirement most programs ask for. I can tell you that GPA is important when applying and being considered, however GRE/MAT scores, RN experience, letters of recommendation, etc. also hold tremendous weight. Keep in mind that you are only in your first semester. You have a ways to go and a lot to learn! I wouldn't base your future goals on one exam. Complete your RN program, learn and do well. Hope this helps!
  8. Hey! I was admitted to the Pediatric NP Program for the fall! As far as I know, we will be taking the same core courses for a year before we break off into our major courses. I'm so excited!
  9. Congrats on your acceptance to TWU and UTHSC! From my understanding, UTMB does help with clinical placement. I could not wait, however, to hear back from UTMB since both UTHSCSA and Angelo State required me to accept/decline within a week! So I had to make my choice and fast. I feel I made the right choice in the end. I cannot speak on which program is best for FNP but they are all great, reputable schools. Whichever you choose, I wish you best of luck. Jasmine
  10. Congrats everyone! I will be attending UTHSCSA this Fall. Prayers to everyone still waiting to hear back from UTMB. I still haven't heard from them, but was accepted to Angelo State too. Hopefully they will send admission letters out soon!
  11. MSN Fall 2015 Student Group Let me know if you can't join. I just made it lol
  12. Ok I'll start it up and post the link here. Do you know of anyone else that was admitted?
  13. I'm thinking of starting a facebook group for MSN Fall 2015 students so we can network. I have yet to find one. Would y'all join?
  14. Manuela are you currently in the BSN program? In my personal advice, HURST review worked best for me. I passed first try (was stressed like crazy) but the HURST review definitely helped me prepare. I'll pray for you!!
  15. I've submitted all required materials. Just need to finish those required courses. I'm so excited! I just heard from another program I was accepted to but UTHSCSA all day BABY! Is anyone else excited ?!
