UTMB Fall 2011 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are applying to UTMB for Fall 2011. There are some really great (and long!) threads out there for Spring 2011 and earlier...but as I'm sure y'all know, the application process can change from cycle to cycle, plus it's just nice to have a new thread for us. :) So feel free to post questions, comments, or anything related to applications!

I'm applying as a second-degree student to UTMB, UTHSC, TWU (Houston), UT Arlington and A&M, plus maybe the new Texas State program. Whew! I keep hearing great things about UTMB so that might be my #1....

A question to start us off: so we can now use either the centralized NursingCAS application, or the application through UTMB, right? :uhoh3: What are you all going to do? I'm thinking of just doing UTMB's direct application....if you do NursingCAS, I think you'll have to do a supplemental UTMB application+fee anyway, so you might as well just do it all once...thoughts?

hey... i didn't get an interview... it was all interesting to me because I had a great GPA, high TEAS V score... who knows...

I'm sorry you didn't get in, sometimes I'd like to know the method behind their madness - will you be applying again?? It's taken me 11 years to reach my goals, so don't give up!!

?: has anyone who interviewed NOT been accepted? Just wondering

I was getting on here to ask the same thing!

I'd probably take it again to be honest - take if after you've completed at least 2 more of the science classes - AP2 and Micro. Are you planning on taking Biology as one of your pre-reqs? If you still need a science elective, I highly recommend taking patho - yes, you'll have to repeat it again your first semester at UTMB, but you'll have a fabulous foundation for the class, more so than you'd get from Biology.

You can wait until the last minute to take your test - I took mine 9 days before the application deadline to make sure I had enough of my science class in me for the test - I just had to hound the school to make sure my results were in my file.

FWIW - I got a 79 on my test too, but my science was a 75 - My AP1 grade was a C (from '00 my first semester in college), My AP2 was an A, micro was a B, and Patho was an A - so I don't doubt that my grades helped counter-balance the kinda low science score from my TEAS.

Best of luck - you may want to invest in some extra patience once you do apply - it can be a long, frustrating process (as shown in these 70+ pages!!)

Thanks for the advice. If I have to wait till I take two more sciences, I will miss the deadline and have to move back a year. What sucks is I scored higher than that in science but then it adjusts the score based on form difficulty it says? IDK. I was going to take Biology for my science elective.

I talked to one of the pre-advisors before I even graduated high school and she said she greatly preferred patho over other sciences, another good class to take just to take is pharmacology because that is the class that almost all nursing students struggle with and several colleges have mandated it as a prerequisite, but that can only be counted as an elective I believe.

Hey Punkydoodles,

Thank you so much. I really think that everything happens for a reason. I was accepted into Alvin Community College's ADN program and I am really excited to start!!!

Good luck to you. You are a great example of someone who doesn't give up!! Be that light for all those other people who didn't make the cut :)

I agree, register and take it, it's not a hard class by any means(at least not to me) and your probably going to need it in the long run anyways.

Yeah, I will have to take it and drop it if I get rejected. I dont think I want to apply to UTMB again. Thanks all.

Another bad news for those who got interviews and have not heard from utmb is that they are having another round of interviews today. 3 weeks ago, they told me "last round of interviews" and yesterday the same. I do not know when they will stop.

I truly gave up on these people because this whole process is ridiculous. I'm very happy for those people who are getting an interview, but for us that have been waiting this long and nothing, is not fair!! I'm so frustrated because if you don't want me, please let me know and like I said, do not make me wait a month to let me know that thank you, but no thank you!!! let me get it over with and move on!!!!

I read "another round of interviews" and HA, I had to laugh because, holycrapthatisridiculous.

I agree believerliz, if they didnt want us, they should tell us because the wait time just to know can be debilitating for people who have plans and goals!

I agree guaramrit, I never thought this process was going to be so painful and so stressful. Once I get that rejection letter in the mail, I'll probably be very sad, but very relief and ready to move on.....

Who is to say we will get rejection letters? I am still keeping my hopes, and will project positive. It is just stressful, is all... I think it helps to remember we wont go our whole lives without word on their decisions, which means sometime soon we will find out! Atleast within the next 6 months :dncgbby:
