UTMB Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are applying to UTMB for Fall 2011. There are some really great (and long!) threads out there for Spring 2011 and earlier...but as I'm sure y'all know, the application process can change from cycle to cycle, plus it's just nice to have a new thread for us. :) So feel free to post questions, comments, or anything related to applications!

I'm applying as a second-degree student to UTMB, UTHSC, TWU (Houston), UT Arlington and A&M, plus maybe the new Texas State program. Whew! I keep hearing great things about UTMB so that might be my #1....

A question to start us off: so we can now use either the centralized NursingCAS application, or the application through UTMB, right? :uhoh3: What are you all going to do? I'm thinking of just doing UTMB's direct application....if you do NursingCAS, I think you'll have to do a supplemental UTMB application+fee anyway, so you might as well just do it all once...thoughts?

Yeah I still haven't gotten an e-mail or call for an interview. I'm a little worried... do you think-- and I know there's still time-- they will give me an explanation as to why I'm (if) rejected? Because I honestly believe that my GPA/ scores are competitive.

Congratulations to the ones who have been accepted! :)

I asked the prospective student advisor what to do if I was rejected because I would like for someone to tell me what they didn't like about my application. She gave me the contact info for the Associate Dean's office and said that I would need to make an appointment there.

Hi everyone! I have been following along but had not joined until today. I just interviewed this week and was told that all applicants are interviewed before a decision is made... so I don't know what really goes on since some applicants already got accepted. Congratulations to those of you that got accepted! Maybe I will find out within the next two weeks as well.

If you look @ past threads, this is how it's usually done.... interviews start, and acceptances are sent out before interviews are even finished or rejections are notified. Maybe this person was trying to be nice, or just didn't know. But their system has been screwed up for a while.

And April 12 is the 8 week mark, which I've consistently been told is when cut off for final decisions happens. .

Coincidently it's also the notification deadline for the other school I applied to. And I haven't head anything from there either. Feeling pretty. darn. low.

Someone mentioned that they allot a certain number of acceptances per interview session, and I think that must be what they're doing---it would not be in our best interest (or theirs) to have run out of acceptances before getting to the last interview sessions.

I still think that's not a great way of doing things, though. Like what if a whole bunch of awesome people were all in the same info session? IMHO, even if it means waiting longer for interviews, they should wait until they've reviewed everyone/everything, then just have 3-4 interview days and be done with it, then make their decisions all at once.

Also, I think NursingCAS is crap. I didn't use it for UTMB, but I filled it out for A&M and found it incredibly tedious. The whole idea is to "centralize" nursing apps and make it easier? Yeah right. Still can't believe they make you manually enter all your previous coursework (I had nearly 200 hrs) and then calculate your GPA wierdly. Plus the word limit for the essay there is much shorter (although y'all had to do a supplemental app for UTMB, right? Did you get to submit the longer essay?) Anyhow, I think they need to get rid of NursingCAS because 1. it sucks, and 2. as we can see, it's causing major delays.

i know some people have been accepted has anyone received a rejection letter yet?

No I haven't received a rejection letter, yet. I was just really hoping that I'd get an interview... UTMB isn't my top choice, but I'd still like to know where I stand. Thanks for letting me know about the Associate Dean's office... I'll definitely call them if I'm rejected just to have some insight as to why. I didn't use the Nursing CAS, I used their online application through UTMB's site.

I can't log onto MyStar... and I'm pretty sure my username (which is the numerical characters they assigned us) and my password is correct. Anyone else having trouble?

I had to call and get my password reset.

I can't get in either, and when I call, I stay on hold for a stupid amount of time.

Same here, except that it is my top choice. I applied to one other school and haven't heard from them either. I too applied straight from their site. And I hope I can get an answer if I'm rejected. No sense applying over and over when you don't know what's wrong.

I still don't understand why they can't notify the absolute No applicants at the beginning.

For those with MYSTAR Problems try using the original password they sent you. Mine just worked. ( I like pushing the Accept Admission button for fun)
