UTMB Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are applying to UTMB for Fall 2011. There are some really great (and long!) threads out there for Spring 2011 and earlier...but as I'm sure y'all know, the application process can change from cycle to cycle, plus it's just nice to have a new thread for us. :) So feel free to post questions, comments, or anything related to applications!

I'm applying as a second-degree student to UTMB, UTHSC, TWU (Houston), UT Arlington and A&M, plus maybe the new Texas State program. Whew! I keep hearing great things about UTMB so that might be my #1....

A question to start us off: so we can now use either the centralized NursingCAS application, or the application through UTMB, right? :uhoh3: What are you all going to do? I'm thinking of just doing UTMB's direct application....if you do NursingCAS, I think you'll have to do a supplemental UTMB application+fee anyway, so you might as well just do it all once...thoughts?

There are a lot of apartments on the island.. price very much depending on location. Sometimes you can rent a condo cheaply- or even a beach house. Look outside the box.. There is something for everyone in Galveston. Also remember- Galveston is not a large city, so you don't need to be right next door to UTMB. You can literally be on the 'other' side of town and only be 10 minutes or so away. lol Island transportation is awesome too- if you don't like to drive.

Congratulations to those who got in.

Alrighty Thanks for the Info!!! :)

Contact a realtor they usually have a rental person and are very helpful! I also used sites like har,Galveston county news and craigslist

I have been following along, but I have yet to post.

I was emailed on 3/22 saying that my application was just sent to the review committee. A week later I received a call because they had misplaced a transcript. I was then told it would be another two to three weeks.

I sure hope their program is more organized than their admission process! :(

I think it's really weird how they are already sending acceptance letters, but not all the applications were even looked at. It's sort of unfair to the ones that applied via NursingCas... :(

Punkydoodles and flam, the more I think about it the madder I get in regards to the NursingCas applications. What if they let everyone in that had a non-NursingCas application and there is not any spots for us? I'm really ticked off. Ughhh its not fair!!

Yeah...I really hope they know what they're doing!

Don't get down though. We have until mid-April to get our interviews.

Yup. I think their entire process blows and needs a serious overhall. And for what it's worth, I would feel this way regardless of being accepted or not. It just plain ol sucks.

Congrats girl!! What are you doing for housing? Do you know how much it costs? The link on their webpage is down...Any info will help!! :)

I'm thinking about sharing a 2 bedroom at the ferry apartments but I need to find a roommate. Efficiency rooms (only has one bedroom and a bathroom) are $300. And 2 bedrooms (includes kitchen, living room, washer/dryer, and one bathroom) is $700 I believe.

To those who are still waiting for interviews, good luck and I wish u all the best. The selection process is weird and if I were in ur position I'd be incredibly frustrated also. But keep your head up! Interviews are still being sent out so dont count yourselfs out!

For anyone who went through an interview: what are they like? In regards to those of us who haven't heard I was told there were several rounds ... And apparently they allocate interview/ acceptance per round. Or so I was told!

Hmmm That sounds pretty good.I did also hear that its good to try a dorm your first year. Price for Dorm I looked up (-could be slightly different) its like 1640 for fall, 1730 for spring and 1330? for summer. So it's like 337 a month for both Fall and Spring plus you dont pay electricity and stuff- free parking as well and internet ... And my parents are leaning towards that. lol :)

And I agree the selection process is weird. But theres still plenty of time! Think positive! :) And Good Luck to those still waiting!!

I applied through NursingCas also and Im getting worried the spots will be taken soon and I really dont want to be waitlisted because of that. This really sucks!!! =(
