UTMB Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are applying to UTMB for Fall 2011. There are some really great (and long!) threads out there for Spring 2011 and earlier...but as I'm sure y'all know, the application process can change from cycle to cycle, plus it's just nice to have a new thread for us. :) So feel free to post questions, comments, or anything related to applications!

I'm applying as a second-degree student to UTMB, UTHSC, TWU (Houston), UT Arlington and A&M, plus maybe the new Texas State program. Whew! I keep hearing great things about UTMB so that might be my #1....

A question to start us off: so we can now use either the centralized NursingCAS application, or the application through UTMB, right? :uhoh3: What are you all going to do? I'm thinking of just doing UTMB's direct application....if you do NursingCAS, I think you'll have to do a supplemental UTMB application+fee anyway, so you might as well just do it all once...thoughts?

That is a huge number. I'll be back in 3 weeks. Gonna go explore threads for the other schools for alternate choices.

Omg 1000 applicants?

My heart just sank a bit... I hope they accept more students this year

Does anyone know why they only accept a few students every year?

Does anyone know why they only accept a few students every year?

That question comes up at every nursing school open house and they all say the same thing, it is a ratio of students to teachers that determines the class size. The State requires a 10/1 teacher to student ratio and each school can only hire so many staff.

Ok, I couldn't stand it - I had to email too - just because that number about sent me over the edge last night and all I could think about in class today was stupid school interviews... I emailed and here is the reply I just got back

Hello Sarah,

The ETA for interview invitations is currently mid-end of March. Admissions decisions are typically made 4-6 weeks after the application deadline. We have received approximately 800 applications for all three BSN programs. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best of Luck and Have A Great Day!

The good news is I applied 750 times, so there is a spot for everyone!!! on about 50 of us!!!:yeah:

@ punkydoodles

"800 applicants for all 3 BSN programs" what is the 3rd program? I thought there were only the traditional and Accelerated BSN nursing programs

I wondered that too...it must be the RN-BSN program.

I wasn't sure either - I assumed Generic, Accelerated and Transition.

hey guys!! i am in my first semester at utmb and was in your shoes in september with all the waiting. They rely very heavily on the interview and once you get the interview they no longer look at grades. econnect is the old system they are slowing switching to the mystar so do not worry about econnect. feel free to message me with any questions i will try to answer as best as i can.

kitcait08: do you know if utmb will offer some applicants early admission into the bacc2 during this 20 month bsn application period? i applied to the 20 month bsn since it is the only application open until april 1.
