Okay so im applying to uthscsa for the spring and was wondering if anyone knows what gpa they look at and any other helpful ideas to get an interview etc. my prereq gpa is 3.74 but my overall gpa is a 3.44...is that going to hurt my chances? i went in for a transcript review and debbie calculated the wrong gpa for me and i didnt notice until i got home. i hope they dont mess up with my application. eeeek im so nervous i wanna do everything possible to get in!!:D the only other place im applying to is sac but i much rather get my bachelor degree then an associates....

Good luck everyone still taking classes on your finals! I just had my first one today and my last one on Thurdays.

All,

I just wanted to let you all know that i have made it to San Antonio!!! It was a dreadful travel day greater than 24 hours from Japan! Ugh!

Can't wait to meet everyone. I am hoping to make it up to the school tomorrow to get a badge, and parking pass. :)

Kristy

Bond2b - honestly all i did was go to class take good notes and I did fine. First semester for 3802 and 3312 (i'm 3rd semester right now) the tests really came from the notes and lecture so I didn't read the book much. You will have a different teacher for 3209 and for the most part people have read the chapters for that class

Books, I would refrain from buying ALL of the books some are not really needed (sorry I don't have your book list or i'd tell you some that are useless). Clinicals are not really bad first semester you basically get assigned one patient and as a first semester you are basically a tech (bed baths and vital signs)and towards the middle to end you get to hand out meds... You basically do a care plan a week which is awkward at first but you will get used to it as the semester goes along.

I have a question. For NURS 3209 (Professional Nursing), our book list says we need

FUND.OF NURSING,CORRECTED-W/CD

POTTER

Edition:7TH 09

Publisher:ELSEVIER

Elsevier and Mosby are the same thing from what I've gathered. I've found two books that are similar to this description on Amazon, but neither matches it.

The First is at http://www.amazon.com/Fundamentals-Nursing-Patricia-Potter-FAAN/dp/0323067840/ref=dp_ob_title_bk\

ISBN-10: 0323067840

Mosby; 7 edition (December 5, 2008)

1824 pages

The other is at http://www.amazon.com/Fundamentals-Nursing-Potter-Perry/dp/0323048285/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Mosby; 7 edition (March 20, 2008)

ISBN-10: 0323048285

1520 pages

The description the book list gives implies theirs yet another revision for 2009 (Edition:7TH 09) that we are supposed to get, which just amazes me that they can do updates every 6 months!

Does anyone know which of these we are supposed to get? It would be nice if we could get any edition as I can't imagine the content could change significantly within 3 revisions of the same edition of one textbook. Then again, there is a 300 page difference between those two...

Yay Kristy! Glad you made it safely. I think getting a badge was one of the best parts! It made everything feel more official.

I got the book from the first link and when i got it seems to be just like the discription. Its the newer version so I went the safe route. There are only a couple I could not find on amazon and i had to order through the school.

I know this is gonna make me sound bad...but I just wanted to know before I have "too much fun" over the break...do you get drug tested for clinicals?

cyclical... tonight i will check to see if the version i bought on amazon matches the topics and pages that the calendar listrs.

Specializes in ICU.

Cyclical, looking at my book the I have the March edition. Do, keep in mind though that the answer key in the book like all the reviews say were wrong on some chapters. A professor promptly ordered us corrected CD's with the correct answers though...

Mosby/Elsevier is just the publishers (authors are Potter and Perry)

ISBN-13: 978-0323048286

I really don't know where the extra 300 pages go haha.

Punx... I never got drug tested... but how about the its better to be safe then sorry train of thought....

If someone wants, post a list of the books and i'll tell you if I used them or not.

Differences for some:

- Not everyone reads the books (some people actually read all the chapters)

- For the most part, most of my learning has been straight from power points (I only really open the book if im confused about something on the powerpoint)

- IMO medsurg was the superior book you seem to use it more often

I'll see you girls/guys at orientation since im a peer advisor unless i go out of town! But, if you have any more questions go ahead and ask! I'm also looking to sell some 1st semester books...

Cyclical...don't know if the cd is corrected but I got the newer one that you had listed..isbn 9780323067843 and the chapters and pages match the tentative schedule they sent out last week if that helps.

I also agree that better safe then sorry is the best way to play..life;) When i went to school in california for nursing i had a professor who knew a student who went out drinking after his last final of nursing school and got arrested or a dui and could not sit for the boards for like 5 years.

hope everyone has a super great holiday beofre the madness in three weeks!:)

azn....also really random .. and i am sure we will talk about this in orientation but are there enough lockers for everyone and they are bring your own lock correct?

Also how formal is orientation. Obviously i won't becoming in summer attire but should we dress buisness casual or just casual?

Specializes in ICU.

Cali, there are day lockers which anyone can use for the day which have combo locks were you set your own numbers to unlockit (I think they did away with the separate locker room though it's still there...)

For orientation I came in jeans and a tshirt haha so it's really not that formal. I mean your going to be stuck inside a room all day bored to death!

I went ahead and bought the extra 300 page one for 30$. It's a brand new international version...with 25$ shipping x_X

Question. I need shoes. My current ones have had the bottom worn nearly through. Is there any requirement of color for clinicals?

Also Aznplay, I like your dressing style :p I hate dressing up for anything.
