Okay so im applying to uthscsa for the spring and was wondering if anyone knows what gpa they look at and any other helpful ideas to get an interview etc. my prereq gpa is 3.74 but my overall gpa is a 3.44...is that going to hurt my chances? i went in for a transcript review and debbie calculated the wrong gpa for me and i didnt notice until i got home. i hope they dont mess up with my application. eeeek im so nervous i wanna do everything possible to get in!!:D the only other place im applying to is sac but i much rather get my bachelor degree then an associates....

Specializes in Pediatric Heme/Onc and Pulmonary.

I'm an instructor at UTHSCSA. There is no magic GPA but in general most students have a GPA of 3.5 and above. You must have a 3.0 to be competitive. Other things are also looked at such as interview, TEAS test score, etc.

Oh ok well i'm mainly anxious right now about being offered an interview and to take the TEAS test so i hope my gpa is good enough to get me there! hehe. I'm also taking as many summer classes as i can to finish the rest of my prereqs so that they can see those grades too!! thanks for your advice hopefully ill get to meet you in the fall :)

Hi bellababy, I too am a Spring 2010 hopeful and just finished submitting my application last week so let's cross our fingers! I have heard that GPAs around 3.4 generally are very good in being selected, but this is in conjunction with your TEAS score as well as the interview process (both done on the same day if I understood correctly). I have a science GPA of 4.0 and an overall of 3.95, but I still have to get good marks on the other two portions of the process. Here's wishing you the best of luck and hopefully we'll be classmates in the near future!

Bump. Is spring semester not as popular as fall? Maybe that will improve my chances of getting in :plsebeg:

I sent in my application a couple of weeks ago after having mixed up the deadline with UT Houston, so I'm slightly worried about what it looks like to have my application come in so close to the deadline >.

Anyone else out there applying for Spr10? I didn't know anyone at UTSA who was applying with me, so it'd be nice to get to know someone to take the plunge into nursing school with :)

Specializes in ICU.

I'm currently a 2nd semester student at UTHSCSA so if you have any questions i'll try and answer the best I can!

Oh yeah... I had a 3.3 gpa and a 86 on the Teas if that helps :-p I really do think it's just your overall application pool though..

I have soooooo many questions. The advisers at UTSA are...difficult, to put it lightly.

I've heard from multiple advisers that if I didn't have a 3.6+gpa I shouldn't bother applying, because that is the lowest that they even consider. I don't think any adviser should ever be so discouraging.

Did you have a lot of volunteering/experience? I have nearly none of that.

What school did you go to to get your pre-reqs done?

How long between the time you sent in your application until you were offered an interview?

Did you take the TEAS before or after the interview? I didn't know until you said that, that I would need to prepare for this test.

What made you decide to become a cRNA? That's a lottttttt of school and a really nice paycheck at the end of it all.

How would you compare the difficulty of classes relative to before you started nursing school?

Did you get any financial aid, and if so, was it a decent amount (sorry if too personal). I checked on collegeboard.com and they show that HSC gives financial aid to 8% of students which is incredibly low and makes me worry that I won't be able to afford it.

That's all I can thank of right now :)

I'm doing a paper due tomorrow >.

Ok like I said I got into the accelerated program with a 3.3gpa and a 86 on the teas. I know of another girl in the class who got into the program with a 3.0 gpa so don't give up trying! I was rejected to my first school or choice so don't get discouraged!

I had no health experience at all. I've done like volunteer things at school for organizations but rarely were they health related. So I had no skills needed for working in the hospital.

I have a previous degree so the bulk of my credits come from UT-Dallas and the rest came from San Jacinto (a community college in Houston)

I think our Apps were due in July and My interview was in Novemeber? I think I got an email telling me about it in late October. So.. 3-4 months?

You take the TEAS the day of your interview. It's either before or after you don't get to pick. The test isn't bad at all its like the NET if you ever took that.

Honestly, I like the feel of being in the OR and having someone's life in my hands. Atleast I think so haha, if not my fall back is in peds because I love dealing with kids. This also probably stems from be wanting to be in med school and settled, but I enjoy nursing school none the less.

In my opinion nursing school is different for many people. In comparison to my undergrad degree I find that nursing school is easier (note I took o-chem, biochem, genetics, molecular cell biology, all the pre-med pre-reqs). Honestly as long as you put in the effort you will do fine.

Yes I get financial aid. Tuition for me is about 3600 a semester. Im from out of town and rent totals out to be another 3000 a semester. The rest is books, food, leisure, and unexpected expeneses. I take out about 11k a semester in loans. UGH it sucks haha.

Hope that helps :-) (also read the other thread for the fall of 09 class...it probably answers alot of questions you might have about the semesters and how our schedule looks like)

This was very interesting and helpful. I feel a lot better after reading your post/that other thread. Also I'm still worried about my chances, but I guess nothing can be done for months. Anywho, thanks a bunch for the info.

Hey CyclicalEvents and AznPlayR99, glad to have read your posts. I received a letter in the mail on Monday from UTHSCSA regarding my computed GPA and eligibility status (yup, I'm eligible:yeah:!). Have you gotten that yet CE? Azn, thanks for the info, it answered some questions I had as well. But I am curious about the 8% financial aid thing... I pay for school with student loans so I guess it doesn't matter much but was hoping to qualify for grants for these next semesters. Anyhow, looking to hear from you all if you have more info to share, and also looking to hear from any other Spring 2010 hopefuls... Cheers.

According to them the school only gives grants to 8% of students, which is kinda crap. Hopefully that's wrong because they don't seem to have any other numbers reported. The last thing I need is more debt.

What school did you get your prereqs from FutureRN? What other schools are you applying to?

Yay I'm so excited to hear from more applicants that are worried like me! futureRN - congrats on that awesome gpa!!! I'm excited for this journey hopefully we all make it in!:nurse: Has anyone bought the TEAS study manuel? I have and it seems pretty helpful but I'm so0o0 busy w/ summer classes n work that I can't find spare time to review...micro is kicking my butt right now :banghead: what prereqs(if any) do yall have left??
