UTHSCSA spring 2010 hopefuls!

Published

Okay so im applying to uthscsa for the spring and was wondering if anyone knows what gpa they look at and any other helpful ideas to get an interview etc. my prereq gpa is 3.74 but my overall gpa is a 3.44...is that going to hurt my chances? i went in for a transcript review and debbie calculated the wrong gpa for me and i didnt notice until i got home. i hope they dont mess up with my application. eeeek im so nervous i wanna do everything possible to get in!!:D the only other place im applying to is sac but i much rather get my bachelor degree then an associates....

I'm not particularly worried about the TEAS. I've looked at some of the practice math and it all seems really basic (ie real world math). And reading is...reading.

I really only have chem 2 and micro + labs and the art credit to go, but that isn't enough hours for full time, so I've taken on a few nonessential courses for this fall.

My Current Class List for Fall09

Introductory Microbiology

Introductory Microbiology Lab

Elementary Organic & Biochemistry

Organic and Biochemistry Lab

Intro To Clinical Lab Sciences

Basic Philosophical Problems

Introduction to Music Industry

Hey all, welcome itsMEKassiah! Good to hear from you... Hey CE, yeah I took all my prereqs at El Paso Community College, finished them all already this past spring... no classes pending, now just waiting to get back to school at UTHSCSA. My wife and I are moving to San Antonio in exactly two weeks, she's gonna be teaching (just graduated, now it's my turn for a degree). I also applied to SAC but would much rather prefer UTHSCSA as would anyone. Hey itsME, I see from your profile you work at Flying Saucer? That's my absolute favorite hangout place when we've visited San Antonio (about 10 visits in the last year) and it's going to be my "Cheers" (preferred hangout) when we move in two weeks! Anyhow, it's good to see people on this board... as CE said, Spring didn't seem to be as popular as Fall but now we seem to be rolling. Let's see who else joins us in the coming weeks so we can all share our stories and apprehensions together. Are you all trying for the generic like me? What TEAS study guide did you get itsME or is there only one to choose from? And is it at Barnes&Nobles? I'll take a look at it to see if it's worth it. Alright, looking forward to hearing from you all... Cheers!

Well I finally got my eligibility letter...which basically said I was ineligible! My heart sank. I looked at the included transcript, and the GPA written was 0.7 lower than what my transcript had written so I was confused and upset and I called the school and got sent to voice mail which only frustrated me more. I went to go do some chores and when I finished I called again and questioned why my gpa was so low on it, and the guy I spoke to put me on hold. A few minutes later someone else comes on the line and tells me that the letter I got was due to a "system error" and that they had already mailed out a new letter. That definitely lifted my spirits.

itsMekassiah, that flying saucer place sounds familiar. Is there an ice cream shop right near you?

Hey futureRN, my username name was actually bellababy but i decided to change it lol. Congrats on ur wife getting a job here that's awesome! Hope u like SA, and glad u liked the saucer! Its definately an awesome hangout place...maybe ive served you then, who knows! I go by Kassi at work (it's alot easier to introduce myself then Kassiah) Theres only one official teas study guide but its not available at barnes&nobles...u have to purchase it online...

Hey CE(i guess thats what ill call u too hah) Yea the math part did look really basic..As weird as it may sound, I'm actually concerned about the english/grammer/spelling stuff- definately not my forte! Cool those are some interesting classes.. looks like youll be having one fun packed semester!

I have micro& nutrition for summer 1.

hist 2 &chem 2 for summer 2

anddd hopefully theyll let me take sociology in summer 2 also so i can be off in the fall and just save up for nursing school :D

Hmmm well I'm sure this spring board will pick up. It's pretty early in the process right now but I'm glad i have a place to vent/calm my nerves hehe hopefully this will be a fun journey for us all :]

I know a few Kassi's, not spelled that way of course :)

This is probably what I'm gonna use to study for the test - http://www.testprepreview.com/teas_practice.htm

Where are you taking your last few classes?

Heyyy there CE.. Phew close call! I would feel the same way if that happened to me...I pretty much have my heart set on uthscsa. Glad everythings fixed

Yep a Brindles ice cream shop is right next door... Its like a beer bar n grill sorta thing if youve ever been....

I've been to that ice cream shop before. I remember all the flavors were funky and good. And I remember seeing the flying saucer, there was a guy dressed in a weird costume that I can't remember. Not old enough for bars yet though :(

Oh yea i briefly looked at that website a while ago... hopefully the real one is not too much harder. I've been taking all of my classes at SAC what about you? They recently built a new nursing building it looks really nice but too bad it's just a 2yr college =/.

Hmm was he wearing a quilt skirt thingy? Some of my managers wear those from time to time lol... Yea I'm not old enough yet either I just work there for about 2 years now. I like it there but i cant wait to start a real career :D

Yes! They were wearing kilts I believe. Funny sight. Is SAC ADN degree then?I'm finishing up my last few classes at UTSA. And about to start volunteering at a hospital in a few days.

Hey y'all... Wow CE that was a scare. Glad they got it fixed though... and I agree that you've got a good load of classes up ahead. I can't wait to get back to school even though I've only been off about a month... this past semester I took Chem 2 and lab, American Govt, English 2, and Art Appreciation. As soon as we move I too am looking to volunteer at local hospitals... which one did you pick? I currently work for a medical device company that builds endoscopic and electrosurgical devices as well as state-of-the-art Nursing Stations so I hope to be able to see some of those things in use so to speak.

I live near Austin, so I'm volunteering at Round Rock Medical Center. My orientation is the 30th. I know that the University hospitals in SA require 100 hour commitments at 4 hours a week though. I like the one I'm at because they allow you to choose the department you want, and are very flexible with the hours. From what I remember in my interview I was told "if you want to volunteer at midnight, we can probably arrange that"

Update: New evaluation worksheet in - ELIGIBLE =D
