Anybody applied to the fall 2010 semester? I just received an invite to take the TEAS!
Hello everyone!
I am a graduate from the UTHSCSA, Class of December 2009!
I will tell ya'll my personal experience with getting accepted into the program.
Oookay,
GPA?: Yes, they do take your GPA into consideration. However, I will let you know that my GPA was about a 3.3. Yep, definitely not at high as my classmates. Other classmates definitely had 3.6 and above.
How did I get in?: I was called in for an interview and spilled my heart and soul into that interview. I told them that this was my passion and that I have NEVER wanted to do anything else but nursing. I feel like I really conveyed that to the lady interviewing me, and that that ultimately got me in.
What was my TEAS score?: I remember getting an 80 something on it. I'm not sure how much they weigh in that score. One classmate got a low 80, had high grades and was accepted.
Where did I take your pre-reqs?: I took my pre-reqs at UTSA, and I heard an adviser there saying that they really like seeing a University on your transcript rather than a community college. That's a bunch of crap. There were more people in my graduating class that only went to San Antonio college or just community colleges than an actual university. Tons, I'm telling ya! Don't listen to someone when they say it "looks better" to go to a University.
How many people applied the same time I did?: On the first day of class, they told us that about 600 applicants were applying for the same semester. WOW!
I will let you know that people don't get it based ONLY on GPA. I feel they really do take different things into consideration. I've heard the horror stories, of people with 4.0's not getting accepted, however I'm living proof that you can still get in with a GPA lower than a 3.5 with a passion for nursing and still get accepted!
I hope this eases some of ya'll anxiety. If any of you have questions let me know! I'd be glad to answer them, I still remember how nerve racking all this can be!
Oh, and this is just a side note...
UTSA is a completely DIFFERENT school than the UTHSCSA.
seriously. I went to UTSA and then transferred to the UTHSCSA. After becoming a student at UTHSCSA, I was disabled from all the stuff UTSA students were able to do. The gym? Nope, can't go in. Free printing? Nope, you're not a student with a working school ID. Could I be a leader on campus? Nope, I couldn't.
I pretty much didn't exist in the eyes of UTSA anymore. I'm not complaining, I'm just trying to prove a point that UTSA is a completely different school than the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Just clearing that up. Hopefully that even helps some people that are confused.

she also told me the same thing, she said it will be both by e-mail and letter.
