UTHSC Traditional BSN Spring 2014 Applicants

Published

I have seen many threads for previous applicants for past semesters to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I wanted to start one myself as I am applying for the spring 2014 traditional BSN and have yet to find a thread for it. Although I opened it for applicants, I would also encourage previous applicants, current/previous students, and applicants for other semesters at UTHSC to join in and share in this exciting time!

BigJayjay ... This happened to me as well, however I received notification from an Admissions Coordinator back in September notifying me of this error. I made a couple of phone calls and it turned out that SON could change the application but the regular admissions office personnel could not .... Anyway, I spoke with the individual who notified me via email the first time and she assured me they would change the application and submit to the correct department for reviewing.

I'm curious as to how many other people may have made this same mistake on their application.

Just an FYI if there is anyone out there like me who has yet to see a status change or hear back .... I called the SON admissions office and was informed that the myUTH portal will be updated by Monday

Anyone know the exact location of where the nursing classes are going to be held? I am trying to map out a metro bus/rail route.

Any current students have any tips on parking?

Thanks!

There is a building just for UTHSC SON where nursing classes will be held the address is on the we page.

The closest metro rail stop is Dryden/TMC and you'll have to walk down Holcombe to Bertner. The SON is on Holcombe and Bertner.

As for parking, Oceanise has a post on the Spring 2013 UTHSC thread that has parking options and prices. She did say at the Nov 7 info session to not do contract parking because you won't actually be at campus enough to get your money's worth. The school has their own garage on Fannin and Holcombe, and I believe it's about $9 per day.

Thanks a lot ladies. Ya I was up there yesterday trying to get some stuff done for my immunizations and found out that UT has their Health Services in a completely different building a ways from the Building on the corner of Holcombe & Bertner so I was just making sure that is where classes are going to be held to make my life easier & less costly with the hectic parking situation.

mcf011, I park at garage 8 on the SW corner of Pressler & Holcombe. I walk to school from there which is about 1/2 mile and takes 10 min or so, but there's a TMC blue shuttle that you can take if you don't feel like walking - that's what I took for clinicals in the med center. I think the SON is one of the last stops so it's faster to just walk. The time/route is available online if you're interested.

Price is $6/day. There might be other garages w/that price in other locations, but garage 8 works best for me! I wouldn't recommend contracts or those lots that are close to the school because they're expensive and there's no need to be paying that much money!

Class is on Mon-Wed during your first semester, but you'll probably find yourself skipping a lot because the classes are recorded and uploaded online. So a contract might seem like a good deal at first, but it's really not, lol. Plus contracts are a pain to begin with!

Oceanise, Thanks a lot for the info.

I wish I knew too. I honestly think it is random. I think they put whomever qualifies into a big bowl and pick names. I am just hoping my name gets picked for the summer semester.

I think their "method" for choosing applicants really disconcerting for future students of the school. I thought really highly of the school and program until now. The only reason I will be applying for a summer spot is because they are the only ones who offer a summer start.

Good luck in the program to all who made it and good luck next semester to those who didn't. This board was sooooo helpful, so thank you to meganelaine for starting it and to all of the participants!! I will see you all in the summer, if I am chosen. :-)

I was denied as well. My transcript evaluation came in the mail on the same day as the denial. I was missing 19 hours of credit, despite having completed all of my pre-reqs. However, this is likely due to issues I had with submitting my transcripts. A large chunk (160 credit hours) of my transcripts were received ~15 days before the deadline. This likely had an impact on my evals.

I have since emailed the nursing admissions office and asked to discuss the issues with my evals. I will update as things progress.

As for scores:

Science GPA: 3.8125

Pre-req GPA: 3.8246

Bachelor of Science in Biology, 2010.

I applied for Summer at the same time I applied for Spring. With the updated transcripts I hope to be a bit more competitive.

the coordinator for the admissions department said that she will be taking people off the wait list till December 20!
