UTHSC Traditional BSN Spring 2014 Applicants

Published

I have seen many threads for previous applicants for past semesters to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I wanted to start one myself as I am applying for the spring 2014 traditional BSN and have yet to find a thread for it. Although I opened it for applicants, I would also encourage previous applicants, current/previous students, and applicants for other semesters at UTHSC to join in and share in this exciting time!

Specializes in Emergency Room.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

I have declined my acceptance at UTHSC and I will be sticking to HBU.

My stats:

Overall: 3.79

Pre-nursing: 3.9

Science: 4.0

HESI: 89

CT: 880

I'm curious to know if the peeps who got accepted found out first from the myUTH site or if by mail. Would i be expecting a certified letter to know whether or not I got in? also, did anybody already have their CPR cert done beforehand? I still haven't done that and I don't know where to do that here in Houston. Thanks

Hi! I found out two days ago through email. It had said a decision has been made and that I needed to check myUTH to find out the results. And yes you should be expecting a letter but I believe that you will find out first informally through email and myUTH before you get an actual letter through mail. I haven't done my CPR yet but I will end up doing it around end of November-early December to make sure that it will last throughout the program.

I received an email congratulating me on my acceptance & then yesterday finally got the MyUTH status change email. From previous allnurses threads it looks as if letters/packets won't start arriving until Nov 15th.

As for the CPR training, you can go to heart.org & search for your nearest CPR classes. It's $55 for a new certification or $45 for a renewal & be sure to get the BLS for healthcare professionals certification. Good luck to you!

Also, just as a heads up in case you haven't heard, the school sent out an email yesterday notifying us that they're transitioning to the pacesetter program only, starting in spring 2014.

That is REALLY great news about the transition to the Pacesetter program. I was really hoping I would be one of the "randomly" chosen ones if I ever get in lol!

If anyone is accepted please find the Facebook page which is uthsc class of May 2015 !!

Hey guys!! Congrats again for those who have already been accepted!!

Nothing for me yet. Still a green circle.

My stats are as followed:

3.91 pre-nursing gpa, 3.75 science gpa, 88 overall Hesi (with 84 A&P and 780 CT score)... I wonder if they weigh the CT score pretty heavily... and I did take all my nursing pre-reqs at a community college.

Anyways, I didn't get my evaluation until last Friday. I wonder if that is maybe slowing the decision making? (1) For those that got accepted, did you already receive an evaluation couple of months ago?

(2) And how do you guys think of the Pacesetter program? Would you prefer to have most of clinical at the very end?

I found out first just be logging onto myUTH and I had a green check mark. Then an hour later I got an email saying "congratulations you're accepted" then the next day I got an email saying "an admissions decision has been made"...so they were out of order and some of is got the email before the change in myUTH. I don't think any of us have received anything in the actual mail yet

I don't think that is slowing down their decision making because in previous semesters there has been plenty of people who have claimed being accepted without receiving an evaluation. And it seems that whoever UTHSC send out acceptances first and what range of scores they have accepted is still somewhat ambiguous because people with incredible stats have been rejected (based on what I read in previous threads).

As for me, I have received three evaluations within a few months span, partly because I sent my transcripts twice (my 2nd time after finishing 3 courses during summer so that they equate another factor in addition to my hesi that was taken at that time and my overall gpa for my application).

I think the pacesetter program seems pretty exciting. I would rather have my last semester mostly, if not all, clinicals because I think that would prepare me more for transitioning into the workforce. I'm not sure how that would affect me studying for NCLEX though but I doubt it would be detrimental.

How about you? Sorry if you have already gave your opinion about this in an earlier post =P.

Guys, I need some advices ~~~~ I got accepted to both UTHSC & TWU and now i'm facing such a tough choices.... Decline either school will break my heart since they are such great schools....:drowning:

Congrats on getting into both. In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of attending one or the other?

I'm not sure cuz i dont have much experience with either school. I heard they are both great. One difference i know of is UTHSC's program lasts 16 months and TWU program lasts 2 years :wideyed:
