I have seen many threads for previous applicants for past semesters to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I wanted to start one myself as I am applying for the spring 2014 traditional BSN and have yet to find a thread for it. Although I opened it for applicants, I would also encourage previous applicants, current/previous students, and applicants for other semesters at UTHSC to join in and share in this exciting time!
Also guys, I got in with an 80 for A&P score on the Hesi. My overall score was still a 92, 820 on critical thinking. My GPAs were all around 3.67. To be honest I think the only reason I got in was because I went to a university for my prereqs. I'm just saying that because i really didn't think I'd get in with the scores I had and when speaking to someone at an info session, she mentioned "we try to look at many things when it comes to admissions decisions"...idk it just seemed like she meant she looks at school, how many classes you took per semester, etc. don't give up guys!! People that got accepted this week for the most part it seems have to respond by next week...I know there will be a few who don't respond/ forget, decline because they accepted elsewhere, accept but don't turn their stuff in. Don't give up guys there are TONS of spots still open! I don't think the second wave of acceptances has even gone out.
Congrats to everyone who can now breathe a sigh of relief! I haven't received notification of acceptance. So, I preemptively drowned my sorrows of rejection in a large bowl of Moo-llenium Crunch ice cream. I felt considerably better afterward. :)
@mze116- Your stats sound great, I definitely think you shouldn't lose hope! I feel like they narrow the list down of offers first by who has that 4.0 Science GPA, then work down from there. I see A LOT of those 4.0-3.9's accepted first from the last thread. (Yes, I stalk people's posts who were accepted...-_-) When I applied for Fall2013, the rep said that the average of those accepted was 3.7 for both Science and Nursing GPA. I had a 3.67ish and 3.56, respectively. I retook classes for this application round and have upped my GPA to 3.88 and 3.73 for science and nursing...and still no sign. Only time will tell. For me, I think some of my bad grades in non pre-req courses from 4-5 yrs ago (eg: organic chemistry 2, calculus 2) reflect poorly upon my "overall academic achievment" hence why I feel I won't be accepted. Even with my 97.6 cumulative HESI score (830 CT, 100 A&P.)
In any case, I feel more prepared to accept my rejection, if that is the case. And if I do get accepted...well, that'll be just a great surprise! Hopefully, I'll be accepted to one of the other schools I applied to! :)
@mze116 when did you apply? I've been scouring the old forums for as much info as I can get & ran across some comments that they possibly send out responses in the order of application date. I know I applied at the very beginning of the application window, so I'm hoping that may be true. I just don't see you not getting in with those super high stats!
@oOfefeOo: I applied on May 20. I am sure they are still going to send out acceptances based on people not accepting/forgetting, etc., as meganelaine93 said. It is just REALLY hard to not be discouraged, especially since I worked really hard to maintain good grades and managed a good HESI score.
Everyone, THANK YOU so much for the support. I now know I was not entirely prepared for the emotional toll this process would take on me. I think we are all fortunate to have this forum with such a supportive group!! :)
Hey, I was checking to see when UTH would send out notices and decided to google it. That brought me here. I didnt even know this existed (allnurses). Could have used the resources here for the entrance exams! Im still waiting for my "green" dot to move to a "green" check mark on myUTH!! Argh, oh well. To you that have got in, I say congrats! To us still waiting what can I do besides wait. Surely it wont be too much longer. I got good grades in science GPA (3.75) and ok in pre-nursing (3.6) w/ A's in AP I&II, Micro and B in Chem. Hesi was good too, 90% overall and 900 in CT. Would my Chemistry class hold me back?
I know I am soooo tired of checking that dang green circle to see if it has turned to a green check mark! and I don't think that your chemistry class will hold you back. Your numbers look good. And just so y'all know I have been creeping on this forum for a while but never made an account! Y'all have been full of helpful information, and congratulations to those that have already been accepted! Pulling for those of us that are still waiting! Checking emails, admission status, and mail at the house has gotten so old! But I can't keep myself from checking constantly.
I have been reading this thread for a very long time! Just now got around to posting something on here! The waiting process is the worst, but all we can do is wait and pray that we get accepted. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted! So proud of y'alll :) I'm hopeful that I will get in, it's not over till it's over!
Here are my stats:
Science GPA: 4.0
Pre-req GPA: 3.5
Overall HESI: 90
Critical thinking: 880

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted! I'm currently an S1 (third semester) at UTHSC so I might see some of you around next spring.
To the person trying to decide between UTHSC and HBU, I've met quite a few nurses during clinicals who went to HBU and loved it. And I admit, I'm really jealous of their small class size. One of my favorite instructors during my first semester at UT actually left in May to become the new dean at HBU. If it would be cheaper and closer to you, I'd definitely go there. Parking in the med center is also really expensive!
