I have seen many threads for previous applicants for past semesters to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I wanted to start one myself as I am applying for the spring 2014 traditional BSN and have yet to find a thread for it. Although I opened it for applicants, I would also encourage previous applicants, current/previous students, and applicants for other semesters at UTHSC to join in and share in this exciting time!
Congratulations to everyone who received their acceptances today! You guys earned it!By the way did any of your emails have any indications whether the school will proceed with the pacesetter program for Spring 2014?[/quote']
Nothing was said about the pacesetter program, so I'm hoping that means it is not changing :)
Hi everyone!
I was accepted to UTHSC, but I earlier this month I was also accepted into HBU's Nursing Program. I have already accepted my spot into HBU, but now that I have been accepted at UTHSC, I am a little indecisive about what I should do.
Tuition at HBU is expensive, but with my scholarships, I am literally paying nothing.
I don't know which school would be in my best interest.
HBU is close to my apt. VS going downtown is the only con I can come up with right now.
Both are great schools that are hard to get into. I don't know what to do.

Congrats on getting in to both schools!
I'm somewhat in a similar position as I got accepted to both UTMB and UTHSC.
Here's my two cents:
If you weigh the costs, you're in a great position to progress through the program and graduate with little to no financial burdens along the way because of your scholarships. In addition, since HBU is close to your apartment it saves the traveling time for lectures. Especially during rush hour, you don't have to waste time driving which equates to more time for you to study when you're overloaded with the program. And I'm sure almost everyone here would say that the drowsiness/laziness kicks in once they get home from school.
As an added bonus, you can save some more money by not having to eat out during lunch all the time since you're so close to home and you have that luxury to go back quickly whenever. Or just enjoy doing the opposite and have fun with the college life during the rare downtimes even more because you won't be paying a lot for tuition anyway! Plus, you can reject your invitation from UTHSC and give the spot up for one of the very hopeful applicants in this forum who hasn't heard back yet and are stressing out like crazy!
Whatever floats your boat! But I think if I had that same opportunity to finish a bachelor degree at a good university that is close to me, especially if I am receiving a full or substantial partial scholarship, I wouldn't hesitate!
Good luck on your decision and congratulations on your acceptances!

Congrats on both of your acceptances!
As JayC said, if it were me, I would stick with the school that had little or no cost to me. HBU and UTHSC are both great schools, so you are not sacrificing much, if anything education wise.
From my own experience, I already have $40,000+ in loans for my higher education and thinking about how I am going to pay for all of that is incredibly stressful.
Of course, the choice is up to you! Go with your gut!
I'm getting more and more discouraged and slightly depressed as the days go on without a response from the school. I have 94 HESI, 900 CT, 3.8 GPAs...
Sorry guys, I guess I'm just confused and I needed to vent! It's hard to hold all of these negative emotions inside while trying to maintain a happy household for the kids! I'm going to do my best to try and stay positive (at least on the outside, lol)!
