UTHSC Traditional BSN Spring 2014 Applicants

Published

I have seen many threads for previous applicants for past semesters to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I wanted to start one myself as I am applying for the spring 2014 traditional BSN and have yet to find a thread for it. Although I opened it for applicants, I would also encourage previous applicants, current/previous students, and applicants for other semesters at UTHSC to join in and share in this exciting time!

Hi guys!

I've already posted my HESI scores before, but I'll post them again so that everything is sort of kept together.

I'm not quite sure about my GPA. I received my first and only transcript evaluation back in May, and I've completed and retaken a few courses since then. So the GPA I'm listing is based on my own calculations, and is approximate.

HESI:

Cumulative - 93.2%

Math - 98%

Reading Comprehension - 96%

Vocabulary and General Knowledge - 96%

Grammar - 96%

Anatomy and Physiology - 80%

Critical Thinking - 940

Learning Style: Kinesthetic/Global

Personality Style: Creative/Leader

Nursing GPA: ~3.5

Science GPA: ~3.5

Pending classes:

Growth and Development

I am really worried that my GPA and A&P HESI score will not be good enough to get me in :( I graduated with a B.S. in 2009 and was mainly just focused on graduating, not getting all A's.

Anyways, good luck to everyone! I hope that we all get accepted!

HESI:

Cumulative Score - 89.7%

Math - 98%

Reading Comprehension - 92%

Vocabulary and General Knowledge - 86%

Grammar - 90%

Anatomy and Physiology - 88%

Critical Thinking - 910

Learning Style: Kinesthetic/Analytical

Personality Style: Creative/Leader

Nursing GPA: 3.67

Science GPA: 4.0

Pending Classes:

Sociology and Philosophy

I really hope we hear something soon! Waiting is not fun at all :(

I'm going with what Felicia said! Not complaining about lack of activity compared to the last spring thread :)

Hahaha... maybe that could be a reason too as to why this forum is short.

So applicants, did you apply to just this school or other schools as well? I applied to just TWU-H and UTHSC-H because I would have apply for Praire View had it not been for the 3 recommendation letters they now require.

In addition to applying to UTHSC - Houston, I applied to the Accelerated Second Degree BSN at UHV - Sugarland, and plan on applying to the Accelerated BSN program at UTMB Galveston when the application opens on September 1.

Speaking of inactive forums...did anyone else apply to UHV? That forum seems to be completely dead...

Hi lbaum,

I just looked at the UHV forum:

and I'm thinking it is dead because that thread was for Spring 2013. I couldn't find a UHV thread for Spring 2014.

What is your top choice btw? Mine is UTHSC-H because of the high NCLEX success rate this school has had for years, and plus it is the top school in Texas. I would have considered UHV, but I don't have a bachelor degree.

Hi Flower23,

That is true about the UHV forum. I would start a new one but I'm not exactly sure how :)

Gosh, that is a tough question. I've heard great things about all 3 programs I am applying to (UTHSC-H, UHV, and UTMB). I keep going back and forth between UTHSC and UHV. UTMB is third for me since I am in Katy and it would be a long drive to Galveston.

I like the fact that UHV's program is a few months shorter than UTHSC's (12 months vs. 15-16 months), because I would be able to graduate and get a job sooner. But at the same time, I wonder if the extra 3-4 months of schooling would better prepare me for becoming a nurse? Also, I know UTHSC is one of the top-ranked nursing schools in Texas, so I'm sure that would look good to potential employers. I do like the high NCLEX success rate as well. UHV also has a good success rate, but UTHSC has been around for a lot longer.

I really can't pick a top choice between those two schools, I'll go wherever I get accepted! (That is, IF I get accepted!!) :)

Where does it say that? o.O I just checked their admission acceptance information and it just says 2. Now I'm worried because I already have two, not sure where to get the third one :(

Here are my scores:

Nursing GPA - 3.903

Science GPA - 4.0

Best of luck to everyone!!!

Hi lyn92,

I called Prairie View CON, and you're right. You only need 2 recommendation letters. One from a professor and the second from a community service leader (maybe a volunteer coordinator?).

I only applied to UTHSC this time because I wouldn't have had enough credits to apply to TWU until this month & with their deadline being Sept 1, I really didn't want to try to rush to get my TEAS completed and everything turned in on time, combined with the fall classes I'm taking.

If I don't get accepted to UT this time, I plan on reapplying for the summer & also applying for TWU. I haven't really even looked into UTMB or PV because I live in far west Katy & both of those are way too far out for me.

I've posted all of this before, but here is everything all together. You guys and your awesome stats definitely make a girl nervous! :)
