I have seen many threads for previous applicants for past semesters to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I wanted to start one myself as I am applying for the spring 2014 traditional BSN and have yet to find a thread for it. Although I opened it for applicants, I would also encourage previous applicants, current/previous students, and applicants for other semesters at UTHSC to join in and share in this exciting time!
Hey, ya'll I'm new to this forum (and website!) I've applied for UTHSC-Houston, TWU-Houston, UH-Victoria and UTHSC-SA...hoping to get into any of these programs for Spring 2014. I've read through literally *EVERY* comment of this thread....y'all really have some great info to share- many thanks!
I actually applied to UTHSCH for Fall 2013 admission, but I wasn't accepted (I was crushed.) When I spoke to an admissions person, they said that average GPA of those accepted for Fall '13 was 3.7 for nursing and pre-req, but that the spring is usually *slightly* less competitive. With that, my info for last round was:
HESI
Cumulative score: 97.6
Reading 98%
Grammar 98%
Vocabulary and General Knowledge 96%
Anatomy & Physiology 100%
Math 96%
Critical Thinking 830 (totally rushed through in 20 mins bc I thought I was short on time )
Learning Style- Kinesthetic/Global
Personality Style- Creative/People
Nursing GPA 3.543
Pre-Req GPA 3.785
I felt like my Bs and Cs in non-science classes (eg: gov2, english) at UT Austin were to blame for getting denied, mainly because I figured those basics didn't matter....BOY am I still paying for that! -_- If only, I could go back to my mid-undergrad career...I would do SO many things differently. I ended up re-taking micro and government 2, so my GPA should now reflect that (still haven't received my transcript eval, but I applied on Aug. 15...the due date. Terrible, I know!) Also, I'm petitioning two courses for sociology and philosophy; I took some upper division courses of each subject at UT which I would like to count for those classes...but still waiting to hear if they are approved. (sent the syllabi in June...it's been a long time since I heard anything :/)
Anyways, in my efforts to begin and finish nursing school ASAP, I resolved to take the TEAS and apply to TWU, UHV and UTHSC-SA for Spring 2014 admission, along with applying to UT Houston again.
I would have to agree with the sentiment that the TEAS V is more difficult. Here are my scores for that exam:
TEAS V
Cumulative 93.3%
Reading 92.9%
Math 96.7%
Science 93.8%
English and Language Usage 90%
Here's to hoping to start nursing school in January of 2014! Best of luck to you all!

I also have a BS in Biology, with a Spanish Minor.
I have a misdemeanor.
I'm a male.
I don't have my course evaluation, yet.
(I think these last details are commonly left out when people talk about their acceptances/denials)
I go through so many emotions every day "oh I'm for sure gonna get accepted" and then by the end of the day "I have no chance of getting in!" Ugh I'm seriously dying
I have avoided stressing over the anecdotes provided in these forums. Many people are negative, stressed, unhappy, exaggerating, etc. I lose hope when I spend too much time reading them and have found it best to read them sparingly. :)
Agreed! Last year I started writing stats down of people who got in, didn't get in, got wait listed etc and this week I've just had to tell myself to leave it alone! It's best to just let it be and pray about it instead!
Haha ok good, I'm not that crazy then. I went through Spring or Fall 2012 and copied down everyone's stats and their outcome. Sigh, the forum was around 130-150 pages. Ahh, the perks of unemployment:bored:

Yes! If I start thinking about it too much I just stress myself out and get all worked up. Worrying about it won't change a thing, so I'm sticking with praying about it as well! :)
So I told you guys I got an email back from a lady at the school saying they would have a number of applicants for us in September...do y'all think calling tomorrow would be too soon? Anyone else willing to call along with me? More callers from here the more chance we will get a faster answer ?
I will definitely try to call tomorrow along with you! I wonder if it will be too soon to ask them if they have sent my transcript eval. I don't know if that will look poorly upon me when they begin to consider my application...o.O I just want to be sure this time around because when I applied last time I didn't get my eval until just before a decision was made....which leads me to believe they didn't accurately process my courses. When I found a mistake, it was too late and I couldn't get in contact with anyone about how my transcripts were evaluated until after the fact.
