UTHSC Traditional BSN Spring 2014 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I have seen many threads for previous applicants for past semesters to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I wanted to start one myself as I am applying for the spring 2014 traditional BSN and have yet to find a thread for it. Although I opened it for applicants, I would also encourage previous applicants, current/previous students, and applicants for other semesters at UTHSC to join in and share in this exciting time!

mze116...On the 17th I had asked a similar question and someone responded. I'm sort of confused about your To Do list question...actually, the answer that you received. I still have Chem, Stats, and HIST 1302 to complete in the fall and I have submitted all of my up-to-date transcripts. My To Do list shows complete. I took my HESI on May 27 and they've received my scores. Now, after reading your last post, I'm concerned. I haven't received a transcript eval letter yet either. My HESI scores are ok...88 overall and 940 critical thinking. So now, I'm thinking my 88 won't be good enough! UGH!! The stress!!! I hate all this wondering!!

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to cause more stress or anxiety to anyone!! When you turned in your transcript, did it say you were enrolled in your classes for the fall? Mine do, so maybe that is why it is not coming off of my to do list.

As for the eval, I just don't know. I guess we can wait to hear from others to see if/when they received them.

Not to change the subject, but I just finished my summer classes at lone star so I had my last transcript sent to UTHSC about 1 week ago. I kept seeing it on my to do list, so I called to make sure they received the transcript. They said they did receive it, but it will not be removed from my to do list until I finish my last 2 classes (stats and eng II) in the fall.

Anyhow, I asked them when I can expect a transcript evaluation and this is what I was told: once your HESI scores are in, they will look to see if you meet the scores they are looking for and if you do, they will request a GPA evaluation and you will receive one in the mail.

I don't know how to take this...do they mean if you meet the minimum 75% they want on all sections then they will request a GPA eval? OR do they mean they won't do the eval unless you meet the test scores they are really looking for? I mean, my scores aren't THAT bad:

Math - 94%

Reading Comprehension - 96%

Vocabulary and General Knowledge - 90% Grammar - 96%

Anatomy and Physiology - 96%

Critical Thinking - 900

Learning style: Cognitive/Analytical

Personality style: Creative/Leader

I took my HESI on may 26, so now I am freaking myself out. Has anyone received a transcript eval? If you did, when did you take your HESI? What were your scores? Ahhhh! I don't know what to think...

I couldn't private message you back for some reason so I thought I would here! I took my HESI on June 29th and got an 89.7 overall with a 910 on critical thinking. I'm not sure why you have not received an evaluation yet because your scores are really good! I would either call or send an email asking why you haven't received one yet. Hopefully there is a reasonable explanation! I got mine last week and they had misplaced one of my transcripts so I had to email and get them to correct it. I received my updated and correct evaluation today in the mail. Let me know if you have any other questions for me!

Thank you so much Brandi! I am going to call them on Monday and see what I can find out. Good luck and thanks again!'

Of course! Thanks and good luck to you also!

OH No worries!! I'm stressing myself out lol! I just hate the waiting!

Yes, I believe my transcript probably did show that I am scheduled for classes for Fall but I could be wrong. I didn't see it before it went over and I can't remember if I registered for classes before I requested for it to be sent over to UTHSC...yeah I know, that's sort of important lol!

We'll just wait and see if some of us will get an eval letter.

Hey guys! From the last few threads I've seen from the past few semesters. The transcript eval coming in or not, doesn't seem to have a say in outcome. Some who have got in got 5 evals, and some never got any so I wouldn't stress!! I just got my second one today. And it doesn't have to do with hesi scores being like super competitive because some of y'all have higher hesi scores than me, and y'all haven't gotten an eval and I've gotten two. So don't stress guys! Some people never get one! Just call and make sure they have your stuff updated. I got my first one right after I called in like June making sure they got my hesi scores and first transcript. Like two days after that I got one. And then I sent another transcript last week and didn't even call and I just got my second one today. I say if you really want one to feel better I'd just call and make sure they have your stuff updated! If not I wouldn't stress, not everyone gets one!

Thank you!!! That makes me feel loads better :-)

Hello, everyone! after snooping around this thread I've decided to join in.

My stats:

Pre-reqs GPA: 3.54

Science GPA: 3.81

Hesi:

Overall: 91.2%

Critical Thinking 790

I didn't do so great especially in the critical thinking but I had completely forgot about that section when studying.

Does anyone know how much that score weighs in?

From what I've seen on past forums for UTHSC, they are looking for high science gpas and/or high critical thinking scores. But some people will have lower hesi scores and high gpas, and vice versa...that's just from my own investigating! I still really can't figure out what they want for certain! Don't freak yourself out too bad! I have in the past and I just realized that I need to calm down and just let it be lol welcome to the thread!

I mean whats done is done, there is little I can do now. I am going to retake classes in the fall just in case I don't get in. But my reg GPA is low only because I made a C in history & B's in my English courses. I made A's in all my science except, A & P I Lecture. (I made a B).

Ughhh good luck to everyone! It just sucks that they let so little people in.

I received my transcript eval the same day as Megan & I only scored a 90 on my HESI, so I don't think you guys have anything to worry about. As for the To-Do list, mine shows completed on everything except the final transcript and I'm enrolled in classes for the fall.

As for which school is my top choice, I've gone with UTHSC because they have the highest success rate of all nursing schools in Houston, they're cheaper than TWU, and you can apply for admission 6 credit hours sooner than TWU. I still plan to apply to TWU in November & reapply to UT if I don't make it in for the Spring. I'd honestly go with whichever school accepts me the fastest. Competition is high, so I'm not going to turn anyone down ;)
