UTHSC Traditional BSN Spring 2014 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I have seen many threads for previous applicants for past semesters to the UT Houston School of Nursing. I wanted to start one myself as I am applying for the spring 2014 traditional BSN and have yet to find a thread for it. Although I opened it for applicants, I would also encourage previous applicants, current/previous students, and applicants for other semesters at UTHSC to join in and share in this exciting time!

Good luck!!! I am sure you will do great on your tests!! :-)

Is the program for spring 15 months?

Is the program for spring 15 months?

That's a great question! I guess it depends on when you start the program - Fall, Spring, or Summer. It does say that the Pacesetter program is 16 months. Maybe that's the "16" part of the "15-16 months" that's listed on the website.

Guys, on my To Do list, it says "Proof of TSI Satisfaction." What is that? And if any of you have a number I could call, that'd be fantastic.

My classmate had/has the same thing on hers. TSI is the standardized tests like the COMPASS or ASSETT. There are three ways to meet the TSI (Texas Success Initiative).

  1. Meeting the minimum standards on test instruments approved by the state
  2. Satisfying the exemption/exception criteria established by the state
  3. Successfully completing specific developmental coursework

If you have already done this, call the registrars office at UTHSC, they will take a look at it and take the hold off. I'm an old-timer and took the TASP which met this requirement. I also took the SAT and ACT. I believe these are approved also. I didn't have to present my scores separately because they were on my transcript from Lamar University. They may be on yours also.

Hope this helps!

It helps a bunch, thank you! I'll give them a call right away (:

true! How long does it take to receive this course eval I keep hearing about?

I'm not sure about how long it takes to receive the course eval letter, but I got mine yesterday. I took my HESI on the 27th of June, and applied on the 2nd of July. So it took about 21 days total including weekends to receive mine. Here are my scores below. I am also stressing out waiting to see if I am going to be accepted. I also applied at HBU. I want to apply at TWU but I need to take the TEAS test. I am wondering if anyone has taken both tests, and if there is a major difference between the two. I wish everyone here the best of luck in all their endeavors.

Overall GPA: 3.704

Nursing Prereq: 3.903

Science: 4.0

HESI: 89.3

Critical Thinking: 860

Thanks! & The HESI I think was a lot easier. & you have more time. The TEAS is more complex & the time is set for each section, I used to ATI Study guide & th eMcGraw Hill Practice test & did okay. (82) I could have done way better had I been confident & not freaked out as much.

btw, your scores look great!

Great scores!!

Now I am freaking out more because I didn't receive an eval. Got my HESI in on May 26... I dunno.

I plan on taking the Hesi Exam on August 5. If I am taking for Uthsc Houston, aren't there sections that you don't need like biology and chemistry? What sections do you take? If you skip those sections, will it have an impact on your score? I just want to be sure I am taking the right Hesi sections.

For the HESI, you only need Math, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary and General Knowledge, Grammar, Anatomy and Physiology, Critical Thinking, Learning Styles and Personality Styles.

When you sit down to take it, all of the sections are listed on the computer. They don't put only the sections you need to take. So, be sure and know which ones you are supposed to take. The people at Prometric do not know which sections you need. Simply skip over the sections (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) that are not needed. You can also choose in which order to take each section. At the end, you can request a copy of your results and they will print it and put their seal on it. They did not give me a copy of the Critical Thinking section. I pulled that section up after I got home.

I had about an hour and a half remaining after I finished the test. I didn't realize I would have so much time to take it! Take your time, go with your first answer. You can not go back and change your answers.

Good Luck!!
