UTHSC Summer 2017

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi everyone, I just wanted to begin a thread for all UT Health SON students who are applying for Summer 2017. I didn't see a thread created for this term yet. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we begin this long journey. Feel free to share anything regarding the application process and/or ask any questions that you may have!

I email Mrs. Hundemer at - [email protected]

So far she has been super nice and easy to talk to (over email). I just sent an email asking clarification about the transcripts, so I'll let you know what she says.

Thanks for this contact info.

I emailed her and she got back to me very fast. Unfortunately, I didn't expect her to answer me so quick, so I didn't get her return email until after office hours.

I answered her with the classes I wonder about, and hopefully she will have a positive answer in the morning!

Thanks for the tips for the HESI!

@jennmv - Of course! Glad it helped! She is super nice and very easy to talk to.

Ok well I am officially giving up on attending nursing school. I have attempted the Hesi three times and failed the A&P section every single time. I am convinced that me being a nurse is clearly not in God's plan.

If everything goes as planned I should have all of my pre reqs done just before the summer semester begins. A couple weeks to be exact. If I don't get in then I'll try again in the Fall. I have not began to study for the HESI since I've been preoccupied prepping for the TEAS. Ugh so much to do. It will be here before we know it. Best of luck to all of you!

Applying for Summer '17 as well. So far this journey has been so long and carried out after finding out last minute I didn't meet all my requirements for LoneStar Kingwood for Spring '17 ... So I've decided to just aim for gold since I'll have all my pre-reqs done by then. Took my HESI last week and did average, was aiming for a higher score.

Hey everyone,

I'm glad this thread is picking up a bit more, and with more people!

Feels more exciting now that the fall has begun, because more of my classes are getting knocked out. :sneaky:

Question - does anyone know if summer admission is covered by financial aid?

I was told by my current school that I couldn't use financial aid for summer, because basically fall 2015-spring 2016 technically include funds for summer 2016 (theoretically if you didn't withdrawal the whole amount for fall/spring).

Does anyone know how this works in nursing school, specifically UTHSC?

Any help would be great!

Good question AndreaD2016. I would like to know that information also.

Hey Andrea! This thread has got me excited as well! Today I spoke with Ms. Mendoza who is head of the undergraduate admissions & she kindly answered all my questions!

I asked about financial aide & she said UT has their own system in regards to aide. Summer is considered a full term so yes it is separate from Fall & Spring and you're awarded the full thing if you qualify.

The summer program starts 3 weeks into May! She also stated you only have THREE attempts to take the HESI & they use your scores from the 2nd attempt. She also said the competitive score for the HESI is a high 80 in each subject(Critical Thinking is not required) . If you repeat a course they take the highest grade that you earned for that class. I had a lot of questions and she was friendly & patient with me! Lol

Hope this post answered any questions! SO EXCITED about this journey y'all!!! :)

Did she say you have three attempts to take the Hesi or two? Your post said three but on their website it says two attempts.

I'm sorry I meant to say 2. You get 2 attempts & they use the most recent.
