Hi everyone, I just wanted to begin a thread for all UT Health SON students who are applying for Summer 2017. I didn't see a thread created for this term yet. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we begin this long journey. Feel free to share anything regarding the application process and/or ask any questions that you may have!
Hey Andrea! This thread has got me excited as well! Today I spoke with Ms. Mendoza who is head of the undergraduate admissions & she kindly answered all my questions!I asked about financial aide & she said UT has their own system in regards to aide. Summer is considered a full term so yes it is separate from Fall & Spring and you're awarded the full thing if you qualify.
The summer program starts 3 weeks into May! She also stated you only have THREE attempts to take the HESI & they use your scores from the 2nd attempt. She also said the competitive score for the HESI is a high 80 in each subject(Critical Thinking is not required) . If you repeat a course they take the highest grade that you earned for that class. I had a lot of questions and she was friendly & patient with me! Lol
Hope this post answered any questions! SO EXCITED about this journey y'all!!! :)
Is critical thinking not required for spring 2017 applicants as well?

I don't know about the Critical Thinking, as far as I was aware it's a requirement per the website. Maybe the original poster meant the CT scores aren't added into the minimum percentage needed for the required 6 testing subjects (A&P, reading comp, math, etc).
Hi everyone! I'm (planning) on applying for Summer 2017 but some concerns have raised for me.
Can anyone with answers to my questions please help me?!
First and foremost, let's start off with my situation. I went to UH for two years from Spring 2014 - Spring 2016 as a science major and finished many of my pre-reqs that, thankfully, transfer over to UH. However, I did Gen. Bio I (which isn't a pre-req for UTH) and got a D for personal reasons. I also took Anatomy and Physiology I and Microbiology and got D's in both, but retook them over the summer of 2016 and got an A and B respectively.
Now, my question is, how does UTH look at retakes and how detrimental is this to my application? I also have a D in a lower-level math course and it is on my transcript, but it is not required for UTH. Does UTH look at the D's on my transcript from Gen. Bio I and this math course? How bad does this look? All my other grades are A's and B's.
So I guess my question is, does UTHealth look at my D's even if they don't go toward anything, how bad will this look, and what do they take into consideration when applying (retakes, etc.) Also, do they look at my cumulative GPA from my time at UH (which is lower than UTH's requirements) or do they just take up all my grade in just the 60 hours of pre-reqs and get my GPA from that, which would be higher on my end. Or do they average it? Also, how does the GPA for science work? Will they take my D into consideration and is this bad?
Sorry for all the questions and I hope someone could give me some reassurance. Thanks everyone!

From my understanding they look 3 things when it comes to GPA: your cumulative (all classes ever taken), pre-requisite classes (those which they require), then the science GPA (A&P I, A&P II, Chemistry, Microbiology). I may be wrong but from what I have observed I have seen this.
I would suggest going to an information session, or a campus tour to ask the other questions that are very specific about UH.
In regards to repeated courses that you've taken again for a better grade, I think they take the higher grade/most recent grade. Again I would recommend confirming this through an information session, campus tour, calling the admissions office.

Wow thank you so much for doing that. I'm sure you did it because you had questions of your own, but thanks for posting it here to keep as all informed.
Good to know about the financial aid, because that was a concern of mine.
I attended an information session earlier this year, but was no where near applying, so I didn't have too many questions besides the general items (which they covered).
Have you taken your HESI yet?
