Hey! I am applying for the Accelerated BSN program at UT Health Science Center Houston that starts in the summer and had couple of questions. I didn't see any topics regarding that particular session (saw the Spring 2014 one) so I started this one.
So I have most of my prereqs for nursing but I still need to take my science prereqs during the upcoming fall semester. I had taken most of the prereqs (like english, psychology, etc) during high school, like dual credit, and now I just need my science classes and a few extra prereqs (like sociology).
The main question that I had about the application process was if I am eligible to apply just yet? I want to enter the summer term and will complete all my prereqs by Spring 2014. But the deadline is Dec 1 (if i'm right). Would I have to complete my science prereqs first? Or could I send in what I have and continually update them with my grades? I will complete all other requirements before the deadline (taking the HESI in October), but my grades won't be complete till after the deadline.
Thanks in advance for any help and i'm looking forward to other applicants for this session!
Hi,
I also applied for the summer 2014 as well. Just received my transcript evaluation today in the mail.
Overall G.PA= 3.07
Preq G.P.A = 3.625
Science G.P.A = 4.0
I had to take the HESI TWICE because I didn't know we had to take the personality and learning style section...
1st Attempt: Overall 89.6%, CT-850
2nd Attempt: Overall 88.4% CT-860.
I'm currently finishing up all my prerequisites this fall except for one;microbiology which I will be taking spring 2014. I'm having anxiety attacks about getting in. I applied to UTMB and was denied so I'm even more stressed out about getting into UTHSC.
I really wish everyone the best because i know how nerve wrecking this whole waiting process can be.
Hi guys!
I am also applying for summer 2014 after I was denied for spring 2014.
Here are my stats in case you guys are wondering:
HESI:
Math - 94%
Reading Comprehension - 96%
Vocabulary and General Knowledge - 90%
Grammar - 96%
Anatomy and Physiology - 96%
Critical Thinking - 900
Learning style: Cognitive/Analytical
Personality style: Creative/Leader
GPA:
Nursing - 3.899
Science- 3.833
Does the HESI A2 cover chemistry and biology? I see some of you had chemistry and biology and others didn't. Is there a reason why?
Also, for those taking the HESI the second time. Did you register for the V1 or V2? The website says retakers have to take the V2. Can someone confirm? Please :)
Thanks :)
The Hesi A2 does have a individual sections of chemistry and biology that you may take. You don't have to take those sections to get into UTHSC. Only science section you need to take is anatomy and physiology. Some people take additional science sections of the exam because they plan to apply to other nursing programs that require it. For example, I took the biology section along with A&P because SanJac requires it and I wanted to kill two birds with one stone. However, if you're just applying at UTHSC, I would just take A&P which is the only science portion they require.
Regarding V1 and V2, when you take it a second time it will automatically register you for V2. Please make sure it says V2 if you're repeating it.
By the way, taking your pre-reqs at a university does not necessarily mean you get preferential treatment to get into the program. It just means you paid more for the same classes versus going into a community college. It really all comes down to GPA and Hesi scores. If you have a high GPA score, you are expected to have a high Hesi. Hope this helps and good luck to you all!

Hi everyone! This is my third application to Nursing School. (UTHSC Spring 2013- denied, UTMB Fall 2013- accepted, but denied offer, and TWU Spring 2014- denied).
Anyway, my to-do list is still showing items from the last time I applied, not this application period. I sent my transcripts before the deadline and UTH already has my HESI on file. Shouldn't I have an application status by now?
Starting to get a little worried.. I emailed someone, but I'm not sure it was the right address. Any suggestions on what I should do?
My stats, by the way:
Pre-req: 3.5
Science: 3.5 (will be a 3.7 at the end of the month)
HESI: overall 89% my lowest section was vocab I think and I got an 84% on A&P.
